Super-Angulon stuck at 1/30

Hi all,

I just realized that the ring for choosing speeds on my beloved Super-Angulon 8/75 doesn't move past 1/30 anymore (into the direction of slower speeds). Faster speeds are fine, but I cannot choose slower speeds anymore. It works fine at 1/30 and faster, but that's it, it won't go to 1/15 or below. I know, I know, the best answer must be "Send it to a repair shop", and I'll probably do that, it's just that - if it's something really easy and stupid, I'd be happy if someone could point me to it. It's the weekend, I can't even box it up and send it off to a shop.

This is like sitting at home with a sick pet and waiting for the vet. :rolleyes: It's on my panorama camera and not being able to use that is like being amputated.

I have helped a friend doing field repair on a Seiko shutter (helped, as in giving moral support). One of the tension springs had come loose, but after some serious fiddling requiring the simultaneous use of four hands we actually managed to fix the problem.

However, I would not recommend this course of action. After this brief encounter I firmly believe that someone without a sound knowledge of these devices needs a lot of luck in order to fix even a small problem. Obviously the stars were align correctly when we tried this…

Thanks... I've boxed it up to sent it off. It's probably going to cost almost as much to repair it as it would cost to get a new used one. But hey, it'd be a shame to not have it repaired. Hopefully, it'll be back by next weekend.

If you have it repaired, you know for sure, you have a tool to rely on. Get another used one you can never know. I think it is nearly always worth it, if it is otherwise ok even it is more expensive to get it repaired.

Most of my LF lenses are in Copal 0 shutters, so if my 75mm SA shutter became faulty I'd do a temporary swap, but it makes you realise it's worth having a spare shutter if you can find one for a good price.

Ulrich, that's very true, and apart from irrational loyalty to a tool I already own and like, my main reason for sending it to a repair shop. It'll probably come back better than ever.

Ian, that's actually a great idea. I'll watch our for a shutter just in case!
