I have a bare bulb Sunpak flash unit, but instead of having a shoe mount with replaceable module, the base is has what almost looks like a sunpak module, but it appears to be non removable part of the flash body, and it is threaded to screw onto a tripod or light stand. It could be attached to a camera via a sync cord or fired as a slave. Almost looks like it was made for studio use. I don't see any others made like this....Anyone know more about this than I do?

OK, here's the deal:
The 120J has no flash shoe, it is not TTL. It does have a thyristor to regulate light output. The unit mounts on a light stand or tripod with a 1/4" x 20 screw thread and does not accept the interchangeable modules.
The 120J TTL has interchangeable dedicated shoe modules to fit a variety of cameras.

To add on that dedicated foot:
Both the Sunpac TTL system as the german SCA system offer non-dedicated feet, for a plain-hot shoe camera.
