Henry has a lengthy discussion on this subject as well, Use of small apertures effectively lengthens exposure and is a significant factor.Speaking about lenses being slow at 1/500, what about the effect of the aperture on the actual exposure time?
I would expect the exposure to be shorter at f/22 than at f/4 because the shutter blades have to travel less to uncover the aperture.
Or maybe the shutter blades are just fast enough that it does not make any practical difference.
Any clue?
I find EV's so much easier. Only 1 number to remember instead of the f/stop + exposure time.
Then you can remember a series of EV for each condition, for instance, ISO 400 and sun => EV 17, shade => EV 15 etc. (which is just another way of saying "sunny 16")
Arithmetics are also so much easier: use ISO 200 film? simply subtract 1 from the EV number you remembered.
I discovered EV when I started using a Hasselblad and now miss it on every other unmetered camera I use (e.g. Leica M3). I have an EV table in my cell phone just for this. Maybe I should just print out the table and attach it to the M3. Or quit using it altogether, medium format is so much heavier cooler![]()

Do they cal Bronica lenses as well?
Much appreciated!
Sirius:
Could you please share the name of service facility that you use that will adjust, calibrate and certify that my 'blad lenses are in spec? Do they cal Bronica lenses as well?
Much appreciated!
Interesting.
Well, I hope in the near future to lern more about EV's...and since my lenses have markings for them...why not?
Thank you for your input!!

Either your camera is setup to hand EVs or not.
Me too, and on Retina and Hasselblad too.It does not seem to be generally liked, but I love the EV feature on my Rolleicord. It's convenient and I think it is easier to start getting a feeling for light levels.
