Have an old light tripod that has the 1/4" treaded screw which we use with our MF baby speed, and would like to purchase a quick release assembly that could be attached to it.
Took a look at what is available but would love some suggestions of those who use one, and why they think its the best
thanks p.

One option, if you have (access to) a 3D printer is to use that to produce a QR. I've got one I've printed (but not yet assembled -- too little play time) and it seems significantly sturdier than what came on my partner's cheap aluminum tripod. I'd want to do some tests before trusting it with my RB67 or Graphic View II, of course, but it's almost free (consumed only fifty cents or so of filament and a couple steel fasteners).

No springs, uses a cam lever to lock the camera plate into the mount, and nice aggressive dovetails. And if you need more plates, just print them.

Arca-Swiss compatible mounts and plates will give you the widest range of choices.

I have an Induro PHT2 pan head(now discontinued) that's nearly 10 years old, rated for 26lbs, sturdy enough for my 8x10 and I've used it for an 11x14 in the past. The only thing I don't care for is the folding handles, the couplers come loose unless you crank them tight with a wrench. I recently picked up a Benro HD 3A pan head that's rated the same, and is Arca Swiss compatible, does not use folding handles. Either one will handle everything I own including my 8x10 Nagaoka Seisakusho with some large glass attached.

Do you use a quick release system currently with other tripods? If so, I would try for something compatible with it.
