I just received a book of Sudek's pigment prints bought through the LF forum.

It's great! But "Poet of Prague" is a good start.

I have three books on Sudek, and I am waiting for two more to come.(the pigment prints, that Ole mentioned and "the poet of Prague")

the three ones are named:
Sudek - Josef Sudek and finally Sudek!....

one is by Sonja Bullaty (very good! great prints in this one)

"Josef Sudek" by Zdenek kirschner (good one too, but the print quality is not as good as in the two other books)

"Josef Sudek" by Anna Favrova (FANTASTIC! big one! lots and lots of prints in really good quality. not cheap, though....)

So I'll have 5 in a little time. I like to have so many with this fantastic Photographer, as each book has prints, not showing in other books...

...and he is my favourite!

Good luck - they can be found on ebay....

sudek is also a favorite of mine -- his fascination with earlier photographic techniques and visual sensibilities should qualify him as the patron saint of apug ..... one book that i really like is 'el silenci de les coses: josef sudek' (1998)..... it contains a range of his work done since 1940 (still lifes, garden series, panoramas, interiors of his deranged 'studio') ..... it has beautiful reproductions and an english translation of the text in the back, along with some of his quotes made over the years in different interviews ..... such as: "i have always only photographed what interested me, what made me love it" ..... i don't remember where i found it; possibly on ebay .... good hunting-- you can never have too many of his books!

One of my favorite photographers.
This one is expensive, but it wll worth the money you invest:
Josef Sudek.
Monograph.
Photographs by Josef Sudek. Edited by Anna Fárová.
Gina Kehayoff Verlag, Munich, 1998. 408 pp., 435 four-color reproductions, 10¼x13".
This is a special part of his work:
Sad Landscape.
Text by Antonin Dufek. Photographs by Josef Sudek.
Moravian Gallery, Prague, 2000. 114 pp., 89 duotone illustrations, 13¾x8¾".
This is a beauty:
Pigment Prints.
Photographs by Josef Sudek.
Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, New York, 1998. 160 pp., numerous color illustrations, 8¾x11¼".

Unfortunatly all these books are out of print, but searching you could find them.

well - they ar finally here...

and it turns out, that the pigment print book isn't the one mentioned above..

it is smaller, and it predates this one.
it is in french...
but it certainly cost me a lot of money!!
approx 350$ (custom is expensive here in DK )

however it is a beautiful book, that I enjoy a LOT!

I just HAVE to learn the carbon process!!!

The book you get is published by Cinubia, Los Angeles, in 1994.
What really surprise me Eric is the price you paid $ 350, the Danish custom may be terrible but why don't you bought it here in EU (Schaden, Germany for €68+shipping cost to DK) to avoid all these flow of money?

 you have a strong point there....

(apart from the "eric" part...)

I noticed it on ebay... waited and waited - the buy now price was 250$...
bought it, because in some (many) cases I am just plain stupid......

however, I am quite good at forgetting the price once I have it. and the book is still beautiful.

I have the Phaidon 55 [ed Ian Jeffery], which is a nice intro to Sudek's work, pocketable and not expensive [a lady IIRC].

The Phaidon 55 is more of an intro to Sudek, not his work. Comparing the P55 to "Pigment Prints" shows that very clearly.

Not that the P55 is bad; just that the others are so incredibly much better!
