Successor of Technical PAN?

A test phase is running in Germany with multiple users for the new Rollei ATP-V1 film. An iso 32 panchromatic film. Deliverable in 135-36 and on request bulk film (30,5m-100ft). With the clear PET layer with non-curling it's possible for an easy scan on high resolution. Sensitivity 370-700nm (so extended red). This film will be on the market up from October/November 2007.

So far 35mm only and a clear statement that this is NO micro film.

It sounds like a great scientific film. I'd be interested in hearing how the reciprocity characteristics compare to the old tech pan.

What is the attraction to films like this, Adox CMS 20 etc. when they are only available in 35mm?

I could use fast film in my mamiya 7 handheld and probably get better quality.

For photographers not having a Mamiya 7 but a 35mm camera there might be some
attraction in films like this. I think there are other ppl around like me, 35 mm user who
would like to have a bigger format camera but but but... many buts.

But i myself am not so interested in new tech pans yet, since i still got the real stuff
stashed away. to use for what? i dont know. most iso 100 films is fine enough.
however, it doesnt hurt if there exists many alternatives for each to choose from.

I wish Rollei/Maco would ask someone with good english to proofread their docs prior to publishing them. Sentences like "very highly solvent superpanchromatic film" simply hurt and I understood it only after translating it word for word back to german (panchromatic high resolution film with extended red sensitivity).

I would be interested in real experience with this film, esp. regarding the blocking of highlights, which is a big problem for me with Adox CMS20/Orthopan UR. Sadly no time for the field test...

Robert, any notes on burning in skies with this film?

I have no further information about this film nor had the possibility to test this film. I only know that German photographers have the possibility to subscribe for their Rollei ATP-V1 test set and do the evaluation.

Have you actually tried CMS 20 developed in their Adotech developer? I ran a direct comparison between this film and 120 HP-5+ (tripod mounted) souped in DD-X and, believe me, even through a relatively low power loupe (4x) you can easily see that the HP-5 ain't no where near as sharp as CMS 20. Not saying you probably couldn't still get a better enlargement--tonality wise, anyway--with the larger film, but CMS 20 will hold its own up to about 8 - 10x enlargement. Of course, YMMV...

If you have a P.O. box in Germany you can empty from Athens..... yes!

CMS20/SPUR Orthopan UR is a micro film.

Interesting. I have a panoramic adaptor for my mamiya 7 which allows it to take 35mm film (came with it) - I may finally have found a use for it

24x70mm negs on that film with the mamiya 7's lenses should be good.

Maco advised for the processing of the ATP-V1 their own developer `Rollei RLC (former LP [Laborpartner] Docufine LC)´, a developer intended for low contrast processing of document films.
However a german forum showed that this developer is not a good choice, and Maco is open for other suggestions.

SPUR tested the new film too, giving positive critics (situating it between the former Kodak TP and those microfilms processed for pictorial use). They claim to have found that their low contrast developer `SPUR Dokuspeed Professional´ once offered for the Kodak Technical Pan works best with it. Thus they will offer it again.

Gigabitfilm offers the same film as `GTP´ together with a developer custom made for it `HDR´.

Gigabitfilm just joined Apug.

If the pano adaptor for the Mamiya 7 keeps 35mm film absolutely flat, I think you may be surprised by the results you get. I'd be most interested to hear feedback if you try this combo.

The curve fitting of their ATP-V1 and the R.L.C. (Former L.P. Docufine LC) is on their datasheet and you can see it's not a 100% fine fitting.

I am afraid you have to wait for some period but in the final planning stage it will be there.

You need a low contrast developer for this film: Kodak Technidol, SPUR Dokuspeed, Imagespeed, R.L.C. , Gigabit HDR, maybe Rodinal 1+200, Diafine (??), well as you can see the Rollei/Maco company and Gigabit is open for all test suggestions.

How about PC-TEA? In a test I developed Copex Rapid EI 16 in PC-TEA 1:100 11m 68F with pictorial contrast.Might be a starting point.

If the 35mm version is running successfully, then there will be an 120 coming, maybe in spring/summer of 2008! No question.

Hi Wolf,

Because you're located near Hamburg I am sure you have the latest info about this film and the possible developer combinations.
Do you have already a published list available from successfull ATP-V1 Technical Pan and some other tested developers?
