But your the only one that seems to want to discuss it?
Either you will or you won't, what is so hard to see in that, Sean has made his choice and it is his website......
Yes you may be able to duplicate, but you will never replace this website, either get on the horse or get off..
you got a 50% choice to make here, and we will go on learning while you make your choice..
Get over it, get under it, or just get off it..

Anyway, as you suggest I'll vote with my feet.

First, I love this place. That is obvious.
Second, Sean is doing an amazing job. That too is obvious.
As for renewing my own subscription, I will evaluate things when it expires in February. Until that time, it's not really a concern for me.
But I would like to make a few observations.
This site is called ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY USERS GROUP. It is not called Sean's Website for Analog Photography. Yes, Sean does own the site, but it is now ours, the photographic community.
Also, the home page states APUG is sponsored by members. This is no longer true as it is fee based. If it was sponsored, like a museum for example, I would be able to pay what I wanted to or could afford.
I see no harm, and great value, in Sean stating what kind of time he is putting into this site. If he is asking for a rate increase, like the cable or phone company, tell us, the customers, why you need this. What is the harm? Don't just say hey guys, I am jacking the rates because we are growing by 100 members a month. This means nothing to me. How does 100 new members a month affect the amount of time it takes to maintain this site? I have no idea. I think 8440 (of 8447) members probably feel the same way.
That's all for now. Flame On!

Hi, it was pretty much covered here at great length in the poll:david b said:I would bet the majority of members/subscribers would like to know why the "sponsorship" is going up.
All that I am asking for is an explanation of why the rate needs to go up. And telling me I don't need to know or that it is none of my business, well, is not good for business.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
The figure you mentioned earlier of 100 per month, just to correct that it's 100+ per week (112 last week). If anyone here is familiar with I.T. support you know what can be involved when a user base increases by 100 per week. I can quite consistently get 20-40 mails and PM's for apug a day, so imagine a year from now. Many of the new folks need a little hand holding at first to get up and running in an unfamiliar system and there is other general support such as name changes, paypal subscription issues, forgotten passwords, keeping sponsors happy, various site bugs, you name it..
I don't mind discussing such things but have pretty much run out of things to say..
Hey, hold on. Let's not panic here.Dave Wooten said:Just drink one less brewski per week...
