So i want to use my D76 at 1-1 as a single shot but i have dumb question. How do i come up with 1-1 ? i am thinking that since my D76 packet makes a gallon that is the stock amount. So 1-1 would be to add enough water that it ends up at two gallons is that correct ? Thank you in advance and tomorrow when i get paid i plan to throw apug some cash. I have been here for years and it is a gift of a site.

ctually I would only make it 1-1 as i need it but hopefully you understand what i am trying to say.

Don't take all of your stock and dilute it 1+1. When I want to develop a sheet of film, I'll take 30ml of D-76 stock, and dilute it with 30ml of water ( I only need 60ml total when using BTZS tube development). It's one shot so, after development, I dump it.

FS D-76 will keep better than diluted developer. So do your diluting just before use. This also makes it easier to adjust the developer temperature.

That's right Andrew O'Neill

I make up four quart-sized bottles of D-76 from the gallon and open them one at a time. Typical tank fulls for me are 32 ounces so I'll use half a bottle for the first batch of film. If I'm on some kind of marathon, I'll use the second half a little later in the evening.

But most often it's a half-bottle that sits around 2-3 weeks until my next session, and D-76 can stand a couple weeks in a half bottle.

That's the way I do it, too. According to Kodak a full bottle of D-76 will last six months and a half full bottle 2 months. I think those numbers are pretty conservative. I mix a gallon, decant into four quart bottles, brown glass with polycone lids, and mark the date I mixed it up on the bottle with masking tape. I like to let it stand overnight to cool before using.

Your D-76 is like a fine scotch. You "cut" it with water just before you drink it, not right after buying a quarter ;-)

PS : that's a mighty goood picture you have here!

Thank you I just took that last week. Tmax 100 Hasselbald with the 50 mm. 16 second exposure.

If you developed it at stock solution you wouldn't need to know all this complicated math :]

Seriously, I prefer my D76 at full strength, and so should you! Well, you should at least give it a try. There is quite a difference in tonality, and I guess I'm of the generation (old and getting older) that just assumes that everyone understands that the Universe (god, Spock, Kodak on a good day, whatever) invented Tri-X, then he (or she, as the case may be) then gave us D76 full strength. Tri-X in D76 straight is still one of the wonders of the world.

I did use it at stock strength and always have. I was just thinking about deluting because I live in the middle of nowhere and have to order everything and wait a week for shipping.

Tmax 100 is a new thing for me. I also am a tri-X fanatic but tmax 100 is better for the long exposures I am now trying out.

the beauty of diluting 1:1 (I use Xtol) is you can adjust the temp with the diluting water.
