For the sake of discussing, here’s one image that has all the elements to please, and to displease everyone, all at once.

But this is photography, isn’t it? The ability to be worth a thousand words...

Well this is a very hard one.

I’ve gone Maniacal about 10 years ago. I figured that if I own the very best equipment in the world I’ll also have to print my work on the very best paper in the world.
You know, the “put your money in your mouth konda thing. Not just talk the talk but walk the walk!
I Purchased tons of 16x20 and 20x24 fb papers (orientalWarm tone, forte warmtone, regular fb...) and I printed like crazy. This was colossal work. Imagine 12-16 big fiber prints per week for 10 years or so.

In the end, when you take everything into account, each print takes about a 1.5hours from Start to finish.

Frustrations, teared papers, exquisite results, everything went into it.

And it piled and piled.

Today I can’t say I’m very happy about this. I have so many prints that take so much space it’s absolutely indecent. What the F am I doing with so many MUSEUM quality prints? It’s so heavy too. Massive.
The other day I spent 10 hours moving my collection from one room to another room. The management of it all is simply stupid.

And the biggest joke? I now have about 75 boxes of 11x14 (50 sheets) waiting to be printed. And it has to be quick because it’s getting old and I’m afraid to lose them.

All in all, 5x7 is the best. SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL!!

I agree with small is beautiful, but it is hard to dodge and burn.

Yes it’s hard to dodge and burn. But relativity is a magical thing; being small it is also very forgiving. Big prints require a lot of minutia. And then drydown comes and ruins all your hardwork. So much money and energy goes into the garbage bin.

This is the thing about relativity: a big print has to be viewed across a room and it has to look good at that distance while a 5x7 print is viewed at arm’s length.
Both these print sizes become a match when they are viewed at these respective distances, with the big prints becoming much tighter overall woth every step you take further away from it.

Anyhow, what I want to say is that a 5x7 print usually snaps just right without dodging and burning. Bigger prints require this because they are viewed close. Once you go farther they look good and you realize that you could have skipped a lot of hassles.

Holding a big print is a form of pixel peeping. Put the print on a wall and walk away and it’ll start to look good without too much dodging and burning.

That’s my realization after all these years.

We feel your pain. Perhaps some of us can be of assistance?

Like receiving a few of the papers?

Actually, I have a bunch of 20x24 oriental RC grade 2, about 50 packages of 10 sheets.

All expired and all fogged. Which is a shame since the packages are so good looking and new.

What can be done with those papers? Could be great for pinhole photography and then contact print them but who shoots 20x24 pinhole?

Alternative processes? I wanted to try Lith but frankly, I have no time for that.

Anyone in this forum would need such papers?

I do love a nice 5x7-I take part in the Postcard Exchange and often print about 4x6/ 4.5x4.5 in on this size paper; it's interesting how different sizes influence how you read an image. I've bought up a lot of old Bromesko etc, with a bit of Antifoggant in the developer old papers can work very well.

Yes, Sun prints!! But how does one keep them beautiful over time? Quite impossible to frame and showcase
