Straps Suggestion

I seem to have a few more cameras these days than I do neck straps to carry them. Looking for some advice for good straps for a Nikon F2A(fairly heavy) and D7000. I'm leaning toward this one but open to a better strap.

I have used the Op/Tech and was satisfied with them. Another strap in leather is made in China by Mr Zhou. He is listed on ebay. I have used his straps. Currently I have an F2 on Zhou and and F3 on an Op/tech.

Never have really liked straps, however currently have Pacsafe strap on the camera I use for travel. It offers a more secure strap solution. Dead Link Removed. Bill Barber

I've used the Op/Tech with my Hasselblad for a long time, and I rate it very highly.

That and Hasselblad straps are my first choice.

I don't like the texture or the elasticity of neoprene straps, so I don't care for Op/Tech, but I do like the UpStrap.

You might want to have a look at www.blackrapid.com offerings. I shoot 4x5 and 35mm. Most frequently a Nikon F100 when shooting 35mm. When I have a 70-200 f2.8 zoom attached I can empathise with your weight issue. The strap of theirs I use goes over head and under your arm yet makes bringing the camera into shooting position easy. More control while walking and no constant banging on your chest. The only slight draw back is it attaches at the tripod lug so if you use a tripod often..

I do understand what you are saying, had similar thoughts initially myself. But rationally does upside down really matter? I suspect also that tripod lug is as strong a connection point (possibly stronger) as traditional strap lugs.

I don't trust straps with expensive, heavy cameras, unless they are in a original leather case. Since I don't like working with the case, I either carry the camera in my hand or put it in a camera bag.

The Domke Gripper Straps look good as well and a good name. I'm a bit old fashioned and don't care for wrist or shoulder straps. I like the camera strap around my neck and camera bouncing on my stomach than dangling from my wrist. You'd develop arthritis carrying an old Nikon F that way.

I use an UP Strap with my Nikon D300. I really like it. You can quickly disconnect the strap and connect an UP Strap wrist strap which I use when shooting sports photography. Long straps get in my way when shooting sports.

The OP/Tech straps are also really good. I used one of those with a Hasselblad 500/cm.

I agree. I don't think it is an issue of the strength of the tripod coupling, but rather whether or not the coupling would be likely to come loose due to the movement of the camera.

I have a friend who had that happen with her high end Nikon Digital body and lens.

Op Tech make a product that uses their couplers and attaches to strap lugs, but otherwise works similarly to the Black Rapid. I use it with my Retina IIIc.

I did not know about it. But also just glanced through some post...(What I always blamed on others.) Sorry.

One then could use a rapid access plate system and mount another female part at that strap. As that mount would not have to bear large forces one could machine it down to lesser weight.

I don't much care for that sort of strap. I just like the old neck type straps...to each his own, I reckon.
