Strap Options for Rolleiflex

Hi Guys- I have a Rolleiflex Autocord Model K4B and I don't have a strap and I was wondering how I could get one without spending a lot of money.

Try a Leica M strap -- the kind with the separate metal element that you can remove from the strap, fit to the camera, and reassemble. I hear they work well.

I got one of these Op/Tech Super Pro Straps for my Mamiya RB67, and it is really nice. Everything I've read about straps for MF cameras speak highly of these. I dont know if its too much money for a strap, but you sure dont want a nice, expensive, HEAVY camera hanging by a thread.

I always thought that, with the myriads of Rolleiflex models and variations about, we needed a good resource describing those many different incarnations of Rolleiflex TLRs.
We have such a resource, for instance in the shape of Rolleiclub's TLR page.

But i think it is even harder to figure out what strap (or rather what clips) fits what camera!
Maybe one of the resident Rolleiflex gurus can compile an illustrated guide?
Perhaps giving alternatives (like Trask's suggestion for a Leica strap) too?

I found a new old stock strap on ebay a few years ago for around $60 but I had been looking for a new strap since 1986 :0

Gordy is your friend. I use his straps with all my cameras, wrist straps, neck straps, TLR straps even a sling strap.

The Op/Tech straps are extremely comfortable when used with a heavy camera.
I even attached one to the Sekonic L-398, to make it more manageable.

Can I use a regular strap put around the first part of the strap connection or does it have to go around the post coming out of the camera?

I saw a guy on eBay selling new Rolleiflex strap knock offs (scissor clip) for not much money out of China. Sorry can't remember the name. They looked decent in the photo.

You probably do not wish that, unless you wish to add even more time to the film changing routine. They are called "Never-Ready Cases" for a reason.

I use a Domke Gripper strap with my 3.5E. Works well.

For a long time I used a simple Canon strap for my Rolleiflex 3,5B, with loop ends like these:

has anyone used it? i'm mostly concerned about it's reliability, don't want any sudden surprises.
and also, is it comfy? overall experience?

I don't think they will fit.
The folded over bit of leather is too thick to fit behind the metal bar over the stud the clips have to clip on to.
Maybe the clips will fit, so if you take them off the strap and put them on a better one?

I have one. Reliability doesn't seem suspect, but it's not much in substance for what you pay for it, either. Just a small bit of nylon webbing and pleather. I do re-inspect the pleather and rivets whenever I use it, just in case.

Nice for me, though, since I rarely use a neck strap, it's lightweight and easy to clip on/off. If I always used one, I'd just rig up a conventional strap; it's easy enough, even without alligator clips. (Or with Gordy's string attachment points.)

Edit: Non-removable hood variant. As to your concern earlier, it's not a concern, especially if you mount the strap with the folded-over bit facing to the outside.If you don't, it's a minor annoyance at best when opening/closing the hood. Plenty of clearance, at least on my model of Rollei, aided by the fact that the lugs through which the strap passes are slightly angled.

Edit II: Also of note on my strap is the neck pad being two sewn-together pieces of synthetic leather, not the rubber pad pictured, and which I'd prefer.

This thread and some Rollei usage yesterday got me thinking it was time to get my perfect strap.

I have long been wondering if www.strapworks.com could put something together for me...I'm a practical nylon kind of guy, not a $120 leather non-adjustable custom strap user.

I've asked them for a quote on a 1" lightweight strap with instantly variable length via a quick-adjust buckle, with thinner 1/2" webbing running from d-rings to the camera and back up to a ladder buckle. Don't imagine they'll ask too much for it, so once we get the details worked out I will place an order and make a report. Plan on liberating the alligator (crocodile?) clips from my current strap and incorporating them into the new one.

I like to carry the camera cross-body, so longer is nicer, but sometimes I want to snug it up pure neck-strap length in use. This could be just the ticket. I'll let everyone know if/how it works out when I get the final product.

On my 3.5F in the past I've used Domke straps which worked well and currently use an Upstrap which I think is even better. http://www.upstrap-pro.com/
