Kew-well!

Thank you

Instagram is an interesting platform for film, I am not an active poster but I do follow the tracks of many photographers, labs and initiatives. Some information is easily exchanged and in a way it can be more direct, as well as being just exclusively available in there.

Hipsters on Instagram. Well, my respect for them to support film industry this fancy way.
Film scanning, digitally editing crowd is even more abundant on the Flickr, BTW.

Analog photography involves skill and know-how with regard to almost every one of the many required steps of processing film.

That has GOT to be one of the best back handed insults I have ever read!! Love it!

great article !

"hipsters" vs. "real photographers"
people who make prints vs. "digital editors"
"real photographers print on fiber paper" vs. " rc printers"
" real photographers develop and print their own work" vs having a lab do it
"real cameras" vs. "other stuff"

the whole us vs. them tribal thing is kind of a drag.

plenty of people here do the same thing, ( ditially edit and upload )
who cares if they digitally edit, they buy FILM and consumables and keep it moving along...

Having been a child of both the analog and digital crowds, I think it goes beyond "digital editors".

I'm probably stepping out on a very flimsy limb here, but process has little to do with the "us vs them" argument. The fact is that "we" are photographers. We know the exposure triangle, we understand how light affects our photos, and we understand how to manipulate all of those points to produce a satisfactory image. "They" typically don't care what the image looks like from the camera, and are more concerned with the output of the computer.

I know plenty of "photographers" who have bluntly admitted to not knowing how the image is created, they just know what they can fix and what they can't.

However I do agree with you. If they want to buy film, and keep the hobby alive in any fashion, I'm in full support.

Really in depth article. I had to laugh at this guy's quote though, I often wonder about the context of such statements given they are only quotes:

"I grew up with [film photography] so there is no sense of discovery for me, but kids these days are just picking up a film camera and didn't have that, so they're discovering it for the first time," Archibald says. "For a 47-year-old, it's pathetic, but for a young 20-something, it's radical."

I have been using digital for 21 years, no way in hell I am not using film. So I get to use both in my job as a photographer......at age 48 does that make me "Pathetic"?

Great article! Thanks for sharing.

It's interesting to see the convergence of film photography and a social media app like Instagram. I post a lot of film shots on Instagram. It's a good way to hashtag your images so others can search out photos that interest them, like #TriX or #Kodak. And if you want to be overwhelmed with film images, just search for the hashtags #FilmIsAlive or #BelieveInFilm. You don't need to have the Instagram app installed on your phone, you can use websites like websta.me to view and search images.

This is all soooo confusing ... I do not understand
Instagram
hashtag
#TriX
#Kodak
#FilmIsAlive
#BelieveInFilm
app installed on your phone
Is this happening in our universe?

It isn't any different than posting your film shots in the gallery.

Although I don't use it, Instagram is another vehicle for sharing information. As long as Instagram encourages folks to share their analog photography, I'm all for it. The more places analog photography is shared, the more exposure (no pun intended) it gets.

I do not post my photographs in the gallery nor anywhere on the internet.

Well I have an exceptional personality.
