Bill, I am really bummed to hear about the equipment loss. Did someone pop the trunk and lift it? A few years back when I drove a 4-runner, someone bashed my rear window and lifted some stuff pretty close to where you lost your gear.

I'll keep an eye on Craigslist and ebay, as I am sure you will too. Maybe a chance it will turn up.

Would it be appropriate/okay to post satisfaction of insurance claims here?

I think we should stick to stolen equipment and posts directly related. If the equipment is recovered that should be made clear, but insurance claims, well wishes, idle curiosity, etc are not directly relevant.

I'd like this thread to be mostly a list and other specific information geared to assisting in the recovery of lost or stolen equipment, focused enough to be a resource that gets indexed.

Hello all,
A friend of mine in Nashville had most of his camera gear stolen from his house yesterday. I don't know if it helps to get serial numbers out there, but here's what he lost:

- Leica M6 sn. 1739371
- Leitz Summicron 50/2 sn. 3198890
- Leitz Summicron 35/2 sn. 2275323
- Nikon S2 sn. 6139904
- Nikon 50/1.4 with the S2 sn. 350821
- Nikon F100 sn. 2273591
- Nikon D700 sn. 2260234
- Nikon D300 sn. 3092400
- Nikon 85mm lens sn. 421077
- Nikon 35mm lens sn. 530047
- Nikon 18-200mm lens sn. 2535564

Thanks...hopefully some of it will turn up

The Nikon 35mm sn 530047 and the 50mm Summicron sn 3198890 turned up.

What does "turned up" mean? Were they misplaced by the owner and not stolen? Did the Police or some other source find them and return to owner or use as evidence for prosecution?

Inquiring minds want to learn the process of recovery.
Good luck with recovery.

Surely people should not be allowed to report the loss of Digital gear?

would that classify as a loss, or a blessing ?

Either way, my daughter had her Nikon D3000 stolen a few days a go while on a train from Venice to Salzburg.
I had only bought it for her about 6 months ago.
She is vey upset as she loved the camera and lost all her photos of Venice as well.

Not analog, but didn't see an equivalent thread on DPUG...

Nikon D80 - #3097933
Nikkor 18-55 DX without front cap - #9294636
Nikkor 55-200 VR DX poss. without front cap either (sister has a tendency to misplace them) - #669191

Everything was inside of a LowePro Nova 160AW bag that was brown with gray trim. At least a couple 2GB SD cards were in the bag as well.
Gear was stolen out of my sister's Ford Explorer during the evening of November 22nd, 2010 north of the Ballard neighborhood in the 8700 block of Golden Gardens Dr NW in Seattle.

I know it's been five months since the incident occured, but, maybe the equipment can be found and recovered.

This thread is a lot shorter than I expected. But I had a Rolleicord stolen, Serial 1179205. I also had a D80 stolen, serial 3019451. Both in Denver out of the same bag. Someone broke in the back of an SUV stole those, a jacket, and my friends laptop.

I had a break in at my house a few nights ago and crooks went for, almost exclusively, the camera gear.
Here's the list:
Nikon F3HP, serial # 1742951
Nikon FM, serial # 24325567

Nikon F3, serial # 1891094
Nikon D200 with 18-70 kit lens, 3065482/3290844. Various filters, CF cards.
Nikon 75-300 AF, sorry, no serial #
Nikon 28-70 AF-D, no serial.
TrekTech TPod
All in a gray LowePro Compact 35 bag

Then's there all the Bronica gear!
SQ-Ai body, 1523324
80/2.8 PS lens, 8328320
Prism finder S, has no serial
SQ 120I back, 2300783
40/4.0 PS lens, 4402634
65/4.0 PS lens, 6603293
TWO waist level finder, one like new the other all beat to hell
SQ 120 back, 2282264
SQ 120 back, no serial number
SQ 220i back, 2308766
Old style but like new in box, Sekonic L-248 light meter
65/80 hood. 95mm metal hood, various filters, strap, all in a black LowePro Nova 4 bag.

Nikon Coolpix S4, it doesn't work. Serial unknown
Canon Sureshot Classic P&S 35mm, serial unknown
They also may be trying to unload a fried Macbook Pro in it's original box.
If your're in NE Ohio, please be on the lookout for these items and PM me if happen across them.

Many thanks,
Nick

Thanks for the advice regarding stolencamerafinder.com!
They would have gotten ALL my gear if I didn't have my F4 and handful of lenses with me.
Thanks again.

I had a chrome Leicaflex SL with 28mm Elmarit stolen in downtown San Antonio, Tx last June. I now make sure I use a camera strap when I travel!

The pawn shops where I live (Richmond, Va) won't buy film cameras anymore.

Jeff
I don't insure my cameras any more, if they get stolen the insurance companys just tell you they are obsolete and aren't worth much.

Wish I saw this thread earlier. I had an Olympus XA-2 stolen (among thousands of dollars of other things) from me several months ago, and I know who it was but the police refuse to do anything. If someone named Adrienne near Schenectady, NY tries to sell you one, let me know right away.

Last Friday (3rd of May), while I was in Spain, two persons broke into our house and carried off some equipment. It was probably the same two drug addicts that broke in ten weeks ago and got caught (resulting in nothing more than probation so they left the court after the trial). They went for the stuff that looked modern and big which meant that I got to keep all Hasselblad and Leica stuff (They choose a Nikkor-H 300/4.5 and left a Leica 35/1.4 ASPH !).
I am trying to recover the serial numbers on the 200 and the Noblex.

Stolen equipment:
Nikkor 200/2.0 Ais if-ED - They took the lens and left the case so any observation of a caseless lens like this is interesting
Noblex Pro 6/150 U - again, they left the case but took the slow time module and the viewfinder
Nikkor 85/1.4 Ais - This was once dropped and the lens hood bent inwards. This was corrected with a pair of pliers and is easy to spot
Nikkor-H 300/4.5
Nikon F4E

There are probably more items missing.
The items where stolen in Lund in Sweden.
