Love the dog pix. Almost everyone does. Can’t wait to do a whole blog on those.

I do this often. I ask to take a portrait and then take a picture of the dog.

But as often as not, the dog owner will try to help. Get the dogs attention or often pose with the dog. I kind of wish they didn't, as my favorite dog (and children) shots are when the owner is ignoring me but the dog or child is staring. It is a personal things, dogs love me and even some non-social dogs will want to visit with me, surprising their owners. So the dog staring while the rest of the world ignores me is, literally, my vision of the world.

Same is true of cats, though people don't take their cats for a walk. Babies and Toddlers are always staring. Difference there is that I actually like dogs, but I take the same sorts of photos of each:

Even for regular street photos, dog people are happier when I'm taking pics, even if I don't ask explicitly. They just seem happy someone else thinks their pet is adorable for the most part.

These are incredible photos. Do you mind my asking what you used to take them and the settings?

The correct analogy is, (as if you are asking them to undress)
Really weird and disgusting thing.
Whenever you hold the camera in the street, as if you are carrying a rifle.
I think if you held the gun, it would be more acceptable.

Dog and girl was Provia in the F6. AF50 1.8, f/4.5 1/80s. I got the dog excited so he was squirming out of her arms to make her smile.

Black and white baby was Delta 100, AF85 1/8-D, f/3.2 1/50s -- the light in there was TERRIBLE. They're getting her ready to visit Santa, but the whole time she's ignoring them, ignoring Santa, and staring at me. So I did some "art" before the christmas card photo.

The drooler was digital. Z6 or Z7 with the kit lens. f/6 at 1/80. Lighting was fun, the sun was behind her but there was a big white van behind me to the right and the sidewalk was white. They made great reflectors.

Here's another from the same shoot as above:

This one's still Delta 100, 85mm f/4 1/80

Malia always stares at me. Even before her parents. Last I saw her she was 4 or 5 months older and it was even worse, but if kids are going to stare, might as well take a portrait.

Meh. When someone comes to tell me I have done wrong by taking their picture, I BURST IN LAUGHTER and I POINT and WAVE my index in all directions while I’M EXPLODING LAUGHING. Between two EXPLOSIVE LAUGHTERS, I tell them that we are presently being filmed by at least 8 hidden cameras all around us.

And I leave, LAUGHING LOUDER.

This leaves the person totally flabbergasted.

Do you live in London?

I went up to Lowes this morning to get some plants and took a bunch of pictures for my blog. I approached two of the staff who were more than happy to have their picture taken. I even ended up having a great conversation with one of them about the area's history, cemeteries, monuments, and genealogy. That made my day.

Later, I stopped into the Kerrville Genealogy Society and asked if I could take pictures and they were thrilled. I'll do that on Thursday. One of the volunteers there has taken over 12,000 photos of headstones and has added over 6,000 entries to Find-A-Grave. Super interesting people.

I've already met a lot of interesting people and I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to blog.

Thank you for that information! I wouldn't even have considered the reflection advantages of the white van and sidewalk. That's experience for you. Great pictures.
