Just for clarification: This was an informal gathering in the evening at a Dallas camera shop (Dons) that caters to film users. There were about two dozen in attendance.

That was proably a legitamate militry decison. If you read "silver by the ton" they had previously been depending on AGFA for film base, (not a great idea when England and Germany were at war) so if they were getting stuff from Dupont, the supply might be rationed if the US war effort needed Dupont base or finished film. If I remember the book correctly, the Government had them work with ICL to create a British source. (now it probably is back to coming from Germany)

The US commitment to its Eastern allies was very high, eg US coast guard cutters escorted some of the west to east convoys all the way to docking at Londonderry. The Canadian navy ditto.

The US supplied late model Sherman's to the Soviets.

Looks like there were at most 4 people in the chair area.

It was full and SRO within 10 minutes.

Look guys, I posted this FYI. You don't believe it, fine. You don't think people were really there, fine. I don't know what to say ...

Fuji seems to be in a different market then:
Fujifilm’s justification for the increase is that “demand for film products is continuously decreasing and the cost of production…stays at a high level.”

With the exception of Acros (which I'd wager is an even tinier slice of the tiny Fuj business in film) Fuji is in a very different market as they primarily make color film, and primarily transparency at that.

Yes, Canada and the US were quite happy to provide materials to the UK, even before the US entered the war. BUT the UK was probably concerned that if push came to shove, DuPont might decide to use i'ts Film Base to make DuPont film rather then ship it off for someone else to coat.

David, thank you. I watch the entire clip and really really enjoyed it. It was both interesting and informative and I hope more like this can be posted. While I will always remain loyal to Kodak, and have used Ilford as well, I appreciate what they do. Again, thank you very much.

Yes, thank you, not being a colour film shooter that point had evaded me and it is an interesting one that perhaps the enthusiasts at Ferrania should bear in mind although it looks like they could end up with 100% of the E6 market processing allowing.

Mike Bain indeed is an Ilford spokesman, I have had many discussions with him over my career.

No, he isn't.
He doesn't work or live in the UK.
If you had said "he is a representative of Harman/Ilford in the US", that would have been more correct.

What's the distinction? He is paid by Ilford and authorized by them to speak for them, no? Even if that is only in the US it still makes him an "Ilford spokesperson."

Based on the post yesterday about Ilford allegedly putting up prices then clearly increasing demand is also a justification.

Does that constitute a win-win situation or is that a lose-lose one:D

yeah...wow. It was pretty damn full by the end, and Bain hung around and talked one on one for a while after. (I shot the video). Thanks for posting it David. Amazing reaction.
