I paid $2.00 for a box lot of with vintage film equipment/accessories, which included a couple of film cutters and film canisters. It also included a lens inside the case.

It is a canister labeled Starr Platar Lens. I have included pictures of it and I will do my best to describe it. It stands about 3.75 inches high. Made in the USA and has Starr Platar marked on the lens. It is 3 inchF/2.9 (f is in italics). Feet 3 to 50 and then INF. Another set of numbers counts down from 22 to f 2.9.

I plan to give all of it to my older brother as a Christmas gift because he collects it and he is a photographer to boot. Would anyone help me please by giving me any information about this lens..including what kind of camera it can fit on would be most appreciated. I would like to be somewhat intelligent when I try telling my brother about after he unwraps my gift on Christmas...ty

It seems to me it is a Bolex 8mm movie camera lens , only could be used micro third digital camera or with a bolex. I bought bolex and there are few versions for film and mounts. Finding a developer tank , film and working camera and a scanner is not easy but if it fits to super 8 , there are many films from kodak and labs.

Find a bolex or 8mm forum and ask there. cinematography forums are good and few others.

These lenses with digital cameras are matchless , extreme higher quality compared with original lens.
