I am going to try using a staining developer, (PMK). My darkroom is in the garage, I do not have a direct drain. Every thing coming out of the sink drains into 5 gallon bucket (s), which I then dump into my wife's laundry room sink. Will the "staining" developer stain the sink, its one of the newfangled composite plastic stone looking sinks. Any thoughts before I manage to get myself in trouble?

Thanks
John

I've never noticed any staining. Just was up good and not leave any stry droplets of used developer around. That is, just clean up like your should with any developer.

why pour it down the sink and risk it, pour it down an external gully in the driveway this should go into the same system.

It may not go into the same system, and it may poison some of the garden plants.

It's hard to tell off hand whether the used chemicals will stain your sink. Probably not, but maybe. Flushing with a lot of water after you pour the waste down the drain will certainly help prevent stains. A big funnel to get the stuff directly into the drain may help, too. There are several oxidizing stain removers that can remove pyro and other photo material stains and probably will do little or no harm to the sink. Will common household bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) remove pyro stains?
