I recently purchased a second hand Horseman woodman, and I am very happy with it, but the forward/backward movements are squeaky and sometimes stiff, I don't know if it's OK to just squirt a bit of WD40 on the rails or if there is a chance this will damage the wood in someway?

Any help appreciated.

From the title of this thread I was going to suggest making an appointment with the Wizard of OZ, but now I see you have a noisy camera. Use graphite as Roger suggested, it should solve the problem. You can check another thread that is currently discussing pencils for recommendations.

NO use a dry lube, like graphite or a wax. WD 40 could damage the cameras finish.

Lubriplate---the thick stuff--- very sparingly on metal to metal surfaces. Beeswax (I have a supply of candle stubs from a chapel,) tallow soap, or candymaker's wax (if you can find it) on wood to wood bearing surfaces. Penetrating oils like wd-40 will migrate under the metal and tend to rot the wood underneath, or so I've been told.

Thanks all, I purchased a shiny new 6B pencil today, which I'm about to ruin, but if it will save the camera, then it's for s good cause!

Thanks for all the help
