Justin, don't have this type of easel but on mine there are a couple of screws just under the adjustment knob that when loosened up allow the blades to be adjusted. Try there, if not try to email Saunders.

Once you have the blade loosened use the old carpenters technique of measuring from corner to corner diagonally each way, looking for equal measurement. That should give you a 'square' opening.
