SQ-A counter-clockwise winding stuck!

Good morning!

I got a Bronica SQ-A body in the mail yesterday. After some basic inspection I came across something worrying. The winding crank can indeed advance properly, but it cannot be turned counter-clockwise(which does nothing, but still!). From what I can tell the camera is otherwise sound.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it serious? Can it be fixed? Why does it happen?
Any input is appreciated.

I also found that it slaps louder than another SQ-A, but that's due to old mirror dampener, right?

I don't know why your crank won't turn counterclockwise, so I can't help with that, sorry.

However, compared to my 35mm kits my SQAi fires like a Howitzer. If you use the mirror lock up it is a lot quieter.

Why should it go counter clock?? I mean, there is no reason why it should. My ETRSi (which is basicly the same but smaller) doesn't do that either. Don't see the point in this.

My SQ-A wind knob goes counterclockwise. It's designed to do this so that you can turn the crank into a convenient position and then flip it for convenient storage. It's not absolutely necessary, but it is convenient.

In order to place the crank so it does not catch on anything when put in a bag etc, you need to flip it over and place it in a position where the crank is flush against the body. You need to be able to rotate the winding crank to put it in a suitable position. You can not wind it forward because the film has been wound on and it won't wind again until you trip the shutter. Therefore you have to wind it backwards.

Sorry Ljusdahl - mine rotates back just fine and I can't recall ever reading about your error. Might be worth getting a manual if you don't have one (http://www.butkus.org/chinon/bronica/bronica_sq-a/bronica_sq-a.htm) and make sure you have all the controls in their default positions etc. [edit: although I just tried various permutations of settings and couldn't reproduce the problem...]
