This is of minor importance but I saw a (possibly) pro photographer running around on the feild at the end of an NFL game (Seahawks vs Falcons) tonight holding a 2.8 TLR taking shots of the players and coaches. He looked really happy.

Yeah, I saw that also. Film deserves national exposure. Good of you to note that w/this thread.

Sounds like something a true geek would do.

'I got a press pass? Quick! The TLR!'

I've love to see footage of this...

If it's the photo I've seen, it's a Rolleicord, and he has what appears to be a Leica around his neck too. So he not only has money, he's joined that religion as well

Woops, no sorry it looks like a Yashica Mat of some sort. The Rolleicord was some guy at an even I believe here in downtown Phoenix.

Yes, I saw that guy also, first a quick glimpse and then he returned long enough to take a navel-perspective shot and then lift and turn the camera to advance the film and set the shutter. Who the heck was that?! And who assigned a film photographer to that duty?

If I had an assignment that wasn't specifically to take instant images for instant reporting and had the flexibility to not be expected to take photos of absolutely everything I see, then I expect that I too would strongly consider reaching for a medium format film camera as well. I might even be tempted to go with a 4x5 press camera if I had access to one in a condition I would trust to work well for the duration, but it is a toss up between the look and feel you can get, and the utility of actually taking photos.

This tlr using photographer either made a silly choice in gear, or he is an old hand and experienced tlr user. This type of camera is not the easiest to use in fast moving and changing situations. Wonder if he is using the sports finder option instead of the laterally reversed focus screen.

A Rolleiflex TLR once was a common press camera here next to 35mm SLR's.

I doubt the photographer was using the Rollei as the most likely to produce the results modern media is expecting. Rather I imagine he is using it for his own reasons, and apparently he has the status to be where he was doing what he wanted to do. I want to see his contact sheet!

And of course we agree again. The left-right reversal in a pain when photographing fast moving subjects. He needs a prism or better yet a Hasselblad with a prism to get the action.

There are more pros out there using film for both personal and professional reasons than many on here might think.

I think a Rollie would be great for certain types of shots in that genre, there is the right tool for the job and then the right tool for the mood / look.

Since many on here are rather knowledgable about analog photography (not me), what do you know that they don't?
