I've been shooting a little Adox CHS 25 film have have been getting black spots on the negatives. The darkroom is almost underway so right now I'm limited to examinations with a 10x loupe. The spots seem like they're "stuck" to the film because I can remove a lot of them by gently wiping the base with a soft cloth, like a cotton glove. Haven't touched the emulsion side. They definitely don't look like air bells.

I have been processing normally, doing a final rinse with distilled water, and then another rinse with distilled water and a drop of LFN. Never used LFN before but I'm not particularly thrilled with it compared to my memories of using Photo Flo. I'll be trying some of that in the near future. In the meantime, has anyone experienced spots with this film beyond what you're used to seeing and dealing with in processing other film types?

thanks,

It isn't the LFN. What developer did you use? I use LFN all the time, it's been my drying aid of choice for years and no debris has ever come out of it. Where are you drying, how clean (and what kind)is the tank? I also shoot same film, never had issues with it. Sounds like a house keeping issue, or developer/stop problem. Of course, it may be air bubbles, can be corrected by adding one capful of 99% isopropyl alcohol to the LFN solution, which also dries the film faster.

Rodinal 1:00 (with distilled water), SS tank, spotless. Housekeeping! I'll look into that; the room I hung it in was empty, but we have an "active" cat...

Will try the alcohol trick too. Thanks!

It's The FILM !!!

You can find other threads on this site, where other people have had the same problem. During the process of coating the film, it gets contaminated, I.E. dust, the emulsion dries. Thus leaving imbedded dust particles in the emulsion.

I've been shooting a little Adox CHS 25 film have have been getting black spots on the negatives.

Clean Your stainless stell tank with a tooth brush + heated distilled water and a few tea spoons baking soda, brush, rinse, then pour heated distilled water + a tea spoon citric acid, let it stay for a few minutes, then rinse with distilled water.
Use distilled water to mix developer, stop bath, fixer. If You reuse fixer, then filter it every time.
Make sure You use clean bottles and all.
