Has anyone ever tried a two, three or more sided angled baffle with multiple pinholes (half a dodecahedron for example, with a pinhole on each plane), to go extra wide without vignetting and so much edge smear?
Multi pinhole baffles has of course been done many times, but always on flat baffles AFAIK.
With a flat film plane there would of course still be radial edge smear, but that introduced by the anisotropy of the pinhole would go, and so would vignetting.
I realize there is no free lunch, and there would be new problems with this.
Still, it seems too interesting an idea for anyone to not have tried it.
