Hello, Fellow Apuggers,

Just wondering if anyone else noticed--
Earlier today, I saw a replay of some coverage of the 911 Commission. Unless I'm mistaken, there was a tripod-mounted Speed Graphic sitting directly in front of the panel and aimed, apparently, at the testifying witness(es). It certainly stood out among the howitzer-sized telephotos used by most of the photographers present. Did anyone else spot the same thing?
Also, I'm also almost sure that I saw a Speed Graphic used in the coverage of a candidate (can't remember which one) during the recent primary campaigning. Is retro becoming the new fashion in news coverage? Does anyone know where the results of the large-format shooting appear?

Prabably same person mentioned in previous thread on 4X5 Lives topic:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
I have a 4X5 Crown Graphic that is reliable. Also recently got a Century Graphic which has good potential as a hand-held - rangefinder with rollfilm back. The Graflex company cameras are quite impressive for their features & durability.

As I remember, there was a post awhile back by a member who discussed using a speed graphic for news photos involving one of the campaigns and other events. Maybe someone has a more specific recollection and can direct us to the post.

I can't remember the name for some reason but that might be close. He also did the famous photo of Al Gore shot with a Holga. He has been shooting news with a Graphic and getting some great stuff. I love shooting action with the Graphic. It is a riot to me to shoot in downtown Denver with a handheld 4x5. I sometimes wear a fedora with a card that says "press." It's great street theater and people seldom think I am really taking pictures. Good stuff.

I saw the same video. The photographer was, in fact, David Burnett, the person liked to by Doug.

I, too, have a 4x5 Speed Graphic and it's great fun to take it out doing news-type photography. I've wandered up close to the action just as I did when I was a TV news photographer, and, with the Speed, no one says a thing. I don't know if I look official with the camera - or crazy.
