Spaced Out

I'd like my 6 x 4.5 and 6 x 7 frames spaced out along the roll.
I think 12 frames of the smaller and 9 frames of the larger would
be good. I may switch to a glassless negative carrier and will
need a certain amount of margin at each frame's end.

Each of my cameras has mid-roll removeal provision. Some
knowledgeable fellow might make the mechanical adjustments.
Any suggestions? Dan

I think the spacing is really a function of the gear ratios within the film advance mechanism on most cameras, Dan. Using 6x6 gearing on the 645 might work, but I'm not sure about spacing out the 6x7. Someone else may have ideas, though.

It's my understanding that corrections in spacing can be made.
I've an RZ with very bad spacing; frames half a frame apart then
two almost stacked on one another. I intend to have that
repaired.

Another method is to shoot two, or three, or four frames and
then skip one. Dan

The bad spacing is a result of slipping clutches and and sticky catches, CLA time as you well know. When its working right the spacing is regulated by the cams and gears and would need parts swapped to make it work differently. What you might try is to mask a 6x9 back to 6x7 or a 6x7 to 6x6, etc. then there will be no need to redo the machinery and you will get widely spaced frames.

If my film holders were the old fashioned red window
type that might do. Separate free film advance, independent
of shutter and mirror, likely would do the trick. Perhaps
an easy matter? An engage or disengagement? Dan
