If by that you mean “able to contain liquid and sheets of film without exposing in the daylight” then I would agree.

The Paterson used "pins" to hold the film in place and I believe required constant agitation.

The Paterson uses pins (like golf tees) as separators to keep the film sheets apart from each other.

You could use it with constant agitation, but with enough solution, you can use it for stand or semi-stand development.

u had film there, would have been nice to see how it fits in the tank. Also if this is supposed to be primarily an 8x10 tank, a sheet of that in the tank would explain a lot. Doesn't need to be video. just stills.

You will see two links, one is a video that shows how the unit is assembled and how the film gies in.
The second link is a pdf to the user guide. This has some pictures showing how the hold downs in the top work

I just went through these links and made up my mind to give this a try when it finally becomes available.
As I shoot 4x5, 5x7 and am putting together an 8x10 outfit, this may work out for all formats

Judging by some comments here and reading the user guide, it may be worth expanding the guide to show the different configurations and the film they hold. There is the one image on page 5 that might be easy to misunderstand. Maybe an insert before the parts list?

This tray holds a single [layer] of film, emulsion side up, for development, correct? So a single 8x10, a pair of 5x7s or 4x10s, or four 4x5s.

I'm in no rush to do 8x10 negatives, but I may have to order one to keep around as a tray for prints. [Would be a good excuse to eventually start doing 8x10 film. That's how logic works, right?]

That’s incorrect for reasons Tim can explain, and in any case the proof is in the pudding. Check out my recent color photos posted in the Gallery. I developed the 8x10 sheets in an initial production sample tank that Tim sent me to test a couple months ago. It performed perfectly
