When I am spotting my prints made on Kodak P-Max Art RC paper, sometimes the Spottone turns pink on the paper - and sometimes it doesn't - on the same print. This happens whether or not the prints have been selenium toned. I use mostly Spottone #3. I can't figure out what is causing this - and how to solve it. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Thanks for the reply... I fix the prints in a two bath fixer (instructions with the paper say only one minute in each bath) and wash in an archival washer...if this were the cause, wouldn't the problem happen consistently on the print - it happens just part of the time on one print. Has anyone else had this problem?

Stop using spotone.

Try www.veronicacass.com and order her dyes instead. I've used them for years and never had problems. I use them on the negative as well as the prints. The bottles are about$4.00

Probably all you'll ever need is mauve (believe it or not), which I use for almost everything. I also have midnight occasionally, as well as browntone for sepia and selenuim toned prints. You use them the same as spotone but they blend better and soak in better.

Grady O - Thank you for the affirmation! I figured I wasn't the only one. Aggie, since you ask, I use Kodak Rapid Fixer - and the paper instruction sheet says 120 sec. - yes, it's RC paper, which I wash for 10-15 min. (BTW, Tim Rudman says to never wash RC more than 10' as it removes the brighteners.) I have an archival washer. The Spotone problem most likely comes from the Spotone rather than my technique since Grady O has the same problem and I doubt if we're using the same paper. Blansky, Thanks for the suggestion - perhaps I'll give it a try.

Blansky, I just checked the V. Cass website - which set do you use? She has a lot to choose from and I'd like to not order the wrong thing. Which is best for spotting b/w RC and fiber paper? Thanks for your help.

Pandora;

I would just order single 5 oz bottles not the kits. I use mostly VC Mauve, as well as Browntone for selenuim/ sepia toned prints. Very occasionally I use Midnight or Dark, but not often.

Just order in the form of an email and list those bottles. Maybe ask for her instruction sheet as well.

She will send you a catalog with the order and you can see all the other stuff she has. There is a lot that is not on the web site.

If you have any questions on how to apply it email me at my website www.michaelmcblane.com.
