I am really excited to announce that the Meyers School of Art, Akron (Ohio USA) University has given me a solo show. I hope any APUGers in the area will stop by for the opening reception and introduce themselves.

The work is fourteen 16x20 inch B&W prints made from 8x10 negatives. The subject is details of a thirty year old wall on the edge of the school parking lot, constructed of treated railroad ties. The 300mm lens, three feet from the wood, captured texture, warping, rough saw cuts, rusting spikes, vandalism, deterioration, and rebirth as new growth pokes tiny seedlings out through spider webs in a raking sunlight.

The work is also about the joy of going back to college, 40 years after graduation, to learn in retirement more about the photographic hobby that has become a passion. If I had any idea what to buy in a scanner and how to use it, I would post pictures. Instead you will just have to come share the moment.

Thank you,

John Powers

Congratulations John...afraid Texas is just to far to make it, but will wish you many good thoughts from here.

Congrats John! Wish I could venture out that way to see your work, but alas it's just a tad too far. Good Luck! I hope all goes well.

Thanks for the good wishes guys. Wish you were close enough to stop by and visit. Thanks for noticing Murray. Two solo shows in eleven months and several group shows as well. Your suggestion that once the pictures are hung, really look at them and see where you are, is still very good advice.

It helps being retired and doing your passion full time. On the other hand I don’t remember having to take occasional naps to get through some of the tougher days when I was working. Maybe I just didn’t have that option. Thank you all for offering so much knowledge for the taking. It is great to have advisors and supporters a keystroke or two away.
