soft shutter

Just curious how many of you guys use a Soft Shutter Button.?
I REALLY Like Them on a Nikon F2, but find i also enjoy them on just about any other 35mm i own.
I have one on my:
Canon A-1 and AT-1
Nikon F2 and F3
For me it is a nice addition to the camera.......

If you owned an F2, the benefit would be obvious.
On "all" other 35mm, it may be a matter of taste.?
But to me, they offer quite a bit of extra/Leverage/Control. It seems like i can get a smoother shutter click and with a bit less (noticeable anyway) effort.
Definitely worth a try, and see what you think.....you might really like it.
I suppose it all comes down to taste. The soft shutter seems like you can just (more so anyway) stick your shutter finger straight out, at 90 degrees, and not have to bend it down and "reach" for the shutter button as much. It feels more natural to me.

Thank you for your reply. I used to shoot a Contax 139 35mm camera. The shutter release was electronically controlled and you couldn't use a soft shutter button. My cable release was electronic as well.

I shoot 8x10, 4x5, 6x6 and 35mm with a stereo camera. I also shoot a Fujifilm x100s digital camera. I know a lot of people who shoot the Fujis swear by the soft shutter buttons. As cheap as they are maybe I should try one.

I have only seen three (the three that i own) and they are all a bit concave. I would not want a convex for the F2. Compared to my other 35mm, the F2 soft shutter sits Much Higher than others.

Yeah, concave seems to be more popular. Some do prefer convex, I suppose. I mean they make the things both ways. I think I'll buy a concave button and try it out.

Only for me, agree. But most of devices are manufactured for someoneelse profit , not for our pleasure.

They did one that was meant to be used with the F and F2 with the Photomic heads as the shutter dial is too high on those models.

I have one and I tried it once on a Nikkormat and it was awful to use as your finger would have to go much higher than what is normal for the Nikkormat.

I have the AR-9 and I can't see any benefits on any SLR I have.
You could say that due to the design of the Nikkormats and the FM/FE shutter release the AR-9 would make them a little more comfortable to use. I can't see much difference apart from making the shutter release taller, nor it is more comfortable to press the shutter release.

I use them on all my Canon cameras with the exception of course of the T90, I prefer the convex ones.

Exactly! I much prefer all of mine with the Nikon designed/marketed/sold AR-1 release. Insist on the genuine Nikon item!
