Although a copy of the Pentax MX would be nice, looking at my Argus C33, could be 3D printed, the shutter is simple could be outsourced to Vietnam as the rangefinder. Lens is triplet, single coated, all in all a capable camera that could be attractive to new analog photographers. Update with modern plastic rather than bakatlie, simple flash shoe. maybe an integrated viewfinder rangefinder window. 3 lens set, 35mm, 50, and 100.

So you win the mega Powerball, you decide to fund the development, production and marketing of one 35mm SLR

I wouldn't, because I seriously doubt one could be successfully marketed in this day and age. What I would do w/ all that money (besides the standard issue wine, women and song) would be buy out Kodak, fire almost everyone and hire people from here to run it. Momus Films, I kinda like it.

Eeek, that Pentas KP appears to have been squished. Maybe that's just the illustration?

I would go out and buy up all the existing stock of discontinued film, keeping or depriving it from the hoarders, and then
  1. spend my time traveling around taking photographs
  2. rerun home to process and print the photographs
  3. return to step one and repeat the process

I think your price is low for design and high for a mold, but that's beside the point: remember, we just won the Mega Powerball and want to spend our riches!

Actually not at all. This is based on working in the auto industry.
The mold block that makes the plastic housings for the ford f150 and the silverado trucks, each block costs 110,000. And sending it out for repairs costs 10,000$ a pop.
And general design of a mold is 10,000. That is simply taking your 3d drafting work, putting it into a special mold program that eliminates angles, etc that cant be done in a mold, and then designs in the sprues, etc so it can actually be molded.

Given the rules of "35mm" "SLR" "bring back", I would choose the F2AS. I've sort of done that with a plain prism F2 and a trip to Sover Wong. The whole thing cost hundreds, not mega-millions.

Change "bring back" to "modernize" and it would be an F3 with the shutter from nikon's top line digital camera, whatever that is these days, and open-source for all the electronic designs and firmware (if any).

Yes, Reflex is too generic

Might I suggest Reflexamat? Reflexax? Hmm, Reflexflex..
As long as they don't end up with Reflux!

Reflexalax?

The easy going camera for those who want to be on the move.

The new service: FedExLax for those things that must move absolutely over night.

Canon F1N-AE, as is or F1n, with an updated battery and motordrive.

A 'Pro-Level' Canon Ftb QL would also be a good one and all three are mechanical powerhouses, IMO.

Nikon F5 w/ D6 auto focus and metering. Modern lithium battery pack, computer for recording data on micro SD card. 250 exposure bulk film back. Might need a couple powerball wins!

Although I've no experience with it I'm intrigued by the Pentax LX. So that would be my choice. It's all Les Sarile's fault. I'd buy one but the stories of dead/faulty electronics have stopped me.

A Pentax LX Mark II with a 1/4000 shutter speed, all mechanical shutter speeds available to use (instead of 1/75s & up), iso up to 6400 would be great

For me, a Pentaz MZ-S Mk. II with a 1/8000 shutter speed, with the metering system & pentaprism from the K3 Mk. III and the AF system (SAFOX 12) from the K1 Mk. II

But the New F-1 already has AE, and the 4LR44 battery is rather common... I agree the motordrive could use downsizing and lithium batteries, though.

A 'Pro-Level' Canon Ftb QL would also be a good one and all three are mechanical powerhouses, IMO.

It already exists, it's the Canon F-1.

You're more creative than usual lately...

Yes we need that service...

100%, as it was, no changes, same machining, materials, heft, just back in production as it never stopped, nor "improved".

But it does no have the Ql feature, which is one of the things I love about that camera.

It's just a super neat body, but I suppose, otherwise, that you are right.

The F1n does need an updated battery though.

I understand, however, the F-1 winds the film in the "natural" direction and this makes it really easy to load. It's the easiest 35mm camera to load I own; setting aside more modern auto-everything machines like the T70.

The F1N does need an updated battery though.

What would be an update on 4LR44 batteries? four LR44 cells? that would be cumbersome, however there're already 3d printed adapters that let you do that. And the 4LR44 battery is easy to get.
