There you go, Leigh...
There I go where?

When I checked shipping charges before I placed the orders they were normal.

The added charge appeared on the email confirmation, and was rolled into the Shipping Charges line on the final invoice.

And that doesn't somehow scream "mistake" to you?

Really?

That is screwy. I understand you not wanting to deal with them after that, but I would have been on the phone immediately to figure out the price difference.

I had an order through with a company to have some film processed - and they had a low price on the website for a "set of prints" for the roll of film, so I figured, what the hell, I'll get prints too. Turns out that low price was per picture. Not really a set, now is it?

so instead of a $30 order, it turned into $115. I called and bitched, and emailed and bitched, and they said oh too bad, it was per print, we're not responsible for errors on the website, didn't you think the price was oddly low for a set of prints. Of course it was low, but it said SET. I'd like to say they'd never get my business again, but they completely stopped processing film now so its a moot point.

Well back on topic:

Since I am helping teach my girlfriend (and relearn myself!), we're placing a fat order of papers, film, and chemistry. I also, by no measure, am a wealthy individual, but this quarters order--I place orders about once every 3 months--will be 370 it appears. Thank God for Arista Edu Ultra papers!

As soon as I got such an email confirmation, I would've immediately cancelled the order. Why didn't you? You can always figure out what happened later. Maybe place the order by phone. Beats staying mad. Freestyle has some good stuff.

For travels (and everything) this year, I ordered 4 boxes of (5x4") TXP 320, and 100 rolls of (120) Fuji Neopan (my subsitute for Plus-X  ). My estimate is that I saved a bit over AU$600 on the rollfilm alone, not buying it in Melbourne, even including shipping - which took a while this time, because the Fuji film was on backorder. Freestyle emailed me to keep me up to date, and because I ordered before the Kodak price rise, that was less expensive too!

One happy Freestyle camper, again.

Marc!

I have nothing but good things to say about FS. I discovered them and my first order included a scanner and complete set of filters for BW work with cameras, so it was hundreds of dollars. Shipping was reasonable, IMO. Then not too long ago I purchased another huge round of chemicals and film. I haven't been able to use as much of it as I'd like and I'm about to head off to job training for a few months and won't be able to use my cameras, but I actually think I'm good for another few months anyway. I've got 9 gallons of D76 powder in the closet, 2 gallons of fixer, countless rolls worth of HC-110, and 4 or 5 hundred feet of BW film in the freezer.

I had $600 to put toward an order, I gathered all cost data for each item from B&H and then started to compare each identical item to FS, after 6 or 7 items of comparison, I quit-----FS was higher on every item. It was clear I was going to get less supplies for my money. But I gave them a try.

Some of the better deals that freestyle have are their private label products. for example compare Fomapan with ARISTA.EDU Ultra Film.

I have no idea how big my orders except that they are always too small. I always forget at least one thing....selenium toner this time!

Fuji Acros 120 (2x 5 roll box), 10 sheets in 11x14 of the new Arista Silver Art paper, and a bottle of R09 (Rodinal replacement).

As I mentioned in another thread, I originally had ordered 4 boxes of film, but with FS's nonsensical price-based shipping, it didn't make any sense to pay an extra six bucks in shipping costs for ten rolls of film, so I knocked it down from a $100+ order to a $75- order.

Well, I think the shipping is reasonable. I just spent $400 and it was $30 to ship....lots of papers, chemicals, awkward boxes and jugs...it probably is closer to $60 to ship. Wonder why it's "On hold" though. Methinks they need to gather everything ^_^

My first order to Freestyle, made a couple weeks ago, consisted of a darkroom kit (tank, reels, thermometer, squeegees, trays, tongs, clips...), my first batch of develop, stop bath and fixer concentrates, 1 600 and 2 300ml cylinders, 2 5-liter storage bottles, a changing bag, film retriever, film cartridge opener. About $230. It came in a box about 2 feet by 18 inches by 18 inches.

My next order was $48.50, and consisted of a pair of 100ml graduates, 2 600ml graduates, and 15 reloadable 35mm cartridges. My 4x5 tank and bulk film roll (kentmere) came from Adorama and my loader came from eBay.

Just putting an order together now. This one will be about $150 or so.
I'm printing some 11x14 for a local show and I need bigger trays along with some other miscellaneous things.
One of the things that I love about Freestyle is their catalog. It's really nice to see a company who still puts out an actual catalog I can hold in my hand. I'm weird like that though.

I usually find myself filling every need/desire when I start shopping there; at one point in the last month my shopping cart reached $300. I pared it down to $67 for some bulk cassettes, a Lloyds lloader, and some Adonal.

Just ordered $228.63 worth of developing chemicals, tank, reels, and assorted stuff. My daughter is coming home from art school for the summer and she is going to show me how to develop B&W film at home. :D
