Smelly Camera

I have a fed-3 that has a nice aroma. Today I was swabbing parts of it with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Seems to have somewhat subdued the smell of the camera. Anyone have any methods that you use for deodorizing old cameras?

For a very smokey camera I received, I put it in a bag with coffee in it for about a week. My wife complained about the coffee smell being strong when it came out but it wasn't smokey.

You could also try a product called "Nilodor". Up here I have seen it behind the counter in pharmacies. It is also the best room deodorizer I have found.

The case is the culprit. Keep the camera away from its case and the smell will fade fairly quickly. Those old cases were tanned with something unsavory or something. I've got two that fit a Zorki I (and the cameras!) and they both have the funk.

Urine and brain matter can certainly both be used to tan leather, and given the smell, I wouldn't doubt that these got that sort of treatment. Fortunately, the camera wont retain much smell once it's left out of the case for a while. On the down side, the cases always keep some of that, character, no matter how you clean them.
