I have received Kav's prints. Most of all I love the helicopter shots. A speed graphic from from the chopper
deck? I'm very impressed. Are you a pilot?
By the way, it would help to have a letter to know which exchange the photos are for and maybe a bit of a background. The photos are fantastic, it would be really cool to find out the story behind...

My prints are in the post now, I enclosed a letter in the envelope.

Just got back from messing with carbon (brushes on three electric motors) to find a huge jiffy bag waiting to be opened. Carefully broke the seal, and as I read the enclosed letter, thought to myself, "it is only supposed to be a small print exchange... 16"x11" is not small.."

On pealing away the bubble wrap, layers of card and tissue, I find a 4" square print framed in a much larger piece of paper - An exquisite little image beautifully executed and one that deserves to be framed and hung on a wall. The bar has been set high and I doubt if my offering will come close.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked them. I am not a pilot, but I get to spend a ton of time on the helos. All the photos were from Speed Graphic cameras. I was going to go send a letter with them going into detail as to what all was going on with each photo, but my life got suddenly busy and I had lost a friend in Afghanistan right before I sent the photos. So honestly I was not in much of a typing mood.

Thank you Cepwin for your PM, and Paul for your very complimentary feedback that made me grin at the idea that you thought that I was sending you a small 16x11" You can cut the paper down to the size you want.

I've received an absolutely lovely gum over platinum print from Darkroom Dan. This my first experience of a print made using this process, and it has an exquisite richness and texture to it. Thanks Dan!

I finally managed to spend a day in the darkroom, printing on fibre-based paper for the first time ever. It took many attempts, but I finally have some prints I am pleased with. They are on the drying rack and will be in the mail on Monday. Thanks all for your patience.

Group 4 - my prints are in the mail, a few days later than planned as I decided to mount them. I'm sorry for the delays. From experience, I expect they will take around 2 weeks to arrive in Europe and the USA - perhaps longer for the APO address. Constructive criticism and suggestions are most welcome - I'm new to printing and have lots to learn.

Delphine, your print arrived last night. Most impressive, the photogravuere (spelling?) yiu have trained yourself to be.
My wife was most amazed at me explaining how the print had been made, and liked the image as well.

It is now framed at 8x10 and hanfing in the back hall.
I felt a bit guilty cutting down what most would term the overmat, although in this case it is part of the same stock this image has been pressed into.
The hall is only 3.5' wide, and I know from past prints hung there that larger sized frames do not work well so close in.

Paul, your very nice 'dog door' print is now framed and hanging beside Delphine's.
The Rocks print has not yet found a place for display, although I like it also.

Group 3 people.

Sorry for not posting earlier as I was on holiday, and swamped since my return on Monday.

Mike - I am happy that you cut down the print to size, it was the intend.

Paul - Thank you very much for both prints. The Venice door is a wonderful image per se, very very subtle. An eye candy and an eye learner. The muted blacks and the tight contrast complements beautifully the careful composition. There is a slight blue black hue to it. It wins my heart, it is on my desk at the moment, and eventually it will be on a wall at home. Thank YOU.
Also, it's the first time I see this paper in the flesh (Lodima) - I feel like doing myself a pre-Christmas treat

Pleased that my prints got to their destinations so quick and enjoyed by the recipients

Also, it's the first time I see this paper in the flesh (Lodima) - I feel like doing myself a pre-Christmas treat

It is a slow paper, and I do mean slow - I was doing eight minute exposures just to get a contact print and having done that, I wouldn't even want to consider an enlargement.. Need to make a proper exposure box with some big lamps so that I can get down to 30 second exposures before I use any more of the Lodima paper.

That's what I read in your letter Paul. What kind of enlarger do you have? you meantioned 100W. I think that I have 300W halogen lamps x 2 in my enlarger head (Ilford multigrade), so may be that would do ?

A 150W opal lamp projecting a nominal 6" square on to the base board through a 150mm lens - That's the best I could do with my Durst L1200. I have a few high power quartz halogen lamps kicking around, but as always, not enough time to play.
