Hello,

I am looking for a normal-angle "process-lens-quality" lens for an EOS APS-C format SLR for some copy work. My copy stand is not that tall. The 50mm macro is too tight for what I am doing using this format, and my friend's 17-40 that I tried has nasty barrel distortion, as I figured it would, even on the smaller format. Not a deal killer for pictures, and I love that lens, but it won't work for what I am doing. Something about 30mm would be perfect. Any suggestions? lack of distortion and color fidelity will be the most important traits of the lens, aside from having the right angle of view. This is a favor, but I don't mind investing in the lens for future use. I doubt a true purpose-made process lens exists for small format, but what could get close in quality in the 30mm FL area? It doesn't need to infinity focus, but it does need to focus at about 3 feet.

How about a lens reversing ring? Maybe e bellows attachment, or close-up lenses?

Hi, Rick.

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem is not that I need to be able to focus on closer objects. The problem is that my angle of view is not wide enough to shoot what I need to shoot. I need a normal AOV on APS-C format.

never used it but I've heard good things about Canon's 35 f2

Here is a link that has an image of the distortion.

Great lens. But too much vignetting for copy work according to that chart! 1/4 EV even on APS-C when stopped down! The barrel distortion might be too much as well.

Maybe something like the 35mm f/3.5 Vivitar flat field enlarging lens? Even adding a bellows and a leica-threadmount to EOS adapter it should be cheaper than most other options.

Here's one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/VIVITAR-35mm-f/...temQQimsxZ20090422?IMSfp=TL090422227012r23115

Holy hell!! Perfect...and it is ten minutes from me. Thank you.

Anyone have any experience with this lens? My Vivitar lenses have pretty well been dog shit for making technically sound pictures; even though they are Series Ones.

Also consider the Zeiss Luminars.

Nikon 35mm is used in the printing industry for real time inspection. Not sure which version however.

This is more of an off-beat suggestion, but how about copying smaller bits of the picture in overlapping fashion and then digitally stitching it? That way you wouldn't need a wide field lens.

Does anyone know where I can find the specs for image circle and such of the Schneider Componon 28mm f/4? It is still made by Schneider, but I had trouble locating the info on their enlarging lenses. It is designed to cover half frame. For these projects, my subject will be two to three feet away.
