Slosh Tray Developing Question ~ 8x10 Negatives

I will soon be attempting to develop some 8x10 negatives using a slosh tray that holds 4 negatives.

My question is do you put all of the negatives in the slosh tray and dunk it into the tray of developer?

Or do you put the empty slosh tray in the tray of developer and add the negatives as you would doing normal tray development?

Jim,
I have been using the slosh tray that you describe for sometime. I place the slosh tray in tray of water that will be used for pre-soaking. I slip each sheet of 8X10 into each of the four compartments (no hurry) and make sure the film is submerged with gentle fingertip pressure. Pre-soak for your chosen time. Then move the slosh tray to the developer and make sure the film is submerged by some fingertip pressure. The use your chosen agitation. I use PMK Pyro and have had good results with no streaking. Like everything else in photography, there is no one right way to do this.

I load the slosher dry, and then I place it in a tray of water to presoak while agitating gently for a minute or so. Then I move it to the developer and start the timer.

I find a slosher to be a very good way to develop sheets because it can carry the film all the way from presoak through final wash - it's not necessary to touch the film at all from the time the slosher is loaded until the washed negatives are ready to hang to dry.

I use the Summitek "slosher" for 5x7 and I absolutely love it. I usually load mine dry and then submerge it in the presoak then follow with the remaining development steps. Beautiful negatives and no scratches or fingerprints!

I dry-load it and then submerge it in a tilted tray so no air bubbles reman under the negs.

Me too, but I have the 4x5 version (6 sheets). I've found that based on my agitation style (lift and lower the slosher), that PMK negs result in overly stained images, so those get the single sheet method, which is my favourite way to develop negs. But everything else is done in rodinal, and the results are superb.
