Slight Problem....

my LPL7700 has just stop working - assuming it to be the bulb I just changed it fr a new one. Still no good. Changed out the fuse on the stabiliser still no good. Switched the timer over to LPL5400 no problems. On looking closer at the part where you insert the lamp into - little white bit with the two hole - there appeared to be some fluid on it - spent a while cleaning and using a hair dryer to make sure it was dry - still nothing. Didn't want to try WD40 on it? Any ideas or is it a dead one.

Did you check the plug and the electrical cord? I have a similar enlarger (condenser head), but it's so simply constructed that I don't know what could possibly go wrong other than a bulb.

it was clear and not viscous - possibly water but bearing in mind this was inside the lap housing and I had been using the enlarger for an hour or so prior to the lights going out?

Fluid doesn't sound good. Sounds like some thing popped. Can you smell anything? Ozone?

Difficult to see how liquid would get in the head, short of being VERY messy with the processing chems, or a pipe leak in the ceiling above... A head gets very hot so any liquid would not survive long. Condensation is ruled out by the fact you were using it for a hour beforehand. All very odd.

If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the lamp socket. If no volts when switched on, check the voltage coming out of the stabilizer. There may be an internal fuse inside the stabilizer which may be worth looking for if no volts coming out the stabilizer. Smell the stabilizer, burnt out transformer wiring usually has the distinctive sweet, sickly smell of burnt lacquer. Don't be worried by a small aroma: if it stings your nose or makes you feel sick, then worry ...

Cheers Bob - I have an LPL7540 stabilse and changed the fuse out of that into the 7700 one still no luck but both worked in the 7540. No voltage meter but I know someone that has one (I think) so will give it ago. If not a new one calls - cheaper than having someone look at it and effecting a repair probably
