Hi all, hope you’re safe and well wherever you are!

Given the recent news that Gepe and perhaps certain others in the slide mount manufacturing business seem to be stopping production, I thought I’d take a bit of an unofficial poll of what those of you who still shoot transparencies to project are planning for the long term. Cardboard? Home manufacture? Has anyone here ever tried to 3D print slide mounts, for instance? Any recommendations for more wholesale-type outlets where one could bulk buy and stockpile a few years’ worth? I guess most will be concerned primarily with just 35mm mounts, but it’d be interesting to hear if any other MF shooters have come up with inventive solutions too. Hope this starts a bit of a discussion!

I have a search on Ebay looking for superslide mounts, and there seems to be enough 35mm and 6x6 mounts to keep everyone going.

I'm buying Wess pin registered mounts and Reflecta hinged mounts on ebay. It's very easy to amass loads of new old stock boxes in a short time.

The big issue is for labs that may now struggle to find a reliable source of new mounts and will have to halt mounting. That is a shame because it will dissuade new slide users from ever projecting.

I shoot 6x6 slides for projection and have about 700 gepe slidemounts obtained from the auction sites. I scan the slides with a nikon 9000 before mounting them.

I shoot 6x6 transparencies for projecting and I was able to purchase a large lot of Gepe anti-newton mounts from Freestyle.

Hello,
for all of us medium format colour reversal film users:
New slide mount are in production by
1) Kunze in Germany: http://www.journal24.com/
2) Jensen in Germany: http://jensen-diaprojektoren.de/index.php/de/produkte/diarahmen

For 35mm there are several manufacturers who are producing them (e.g. Reflecta, AP). And something new is also in works........

Best regards,
Henning
This may be out of your research coverage, but does anybody still make film reels for 8mm/16mm film?

Well, besides the already mentioned Wittner Cinetec as a retail source, you could also contact Click&Surr in Berlin, as they also have a strong focus on 8mm / 16mm small movie format film:

Wow, 400 6x9 projector. How cool is that! ?

Well, it is indeed very cool .
I know Mr. Jensen personally (very nice guy, and an excellent technician who has learned his craft at the Götschmann projector production). I have also seen his 6x9 projector in use: Excellent quality, build like a tank. Highly recommended.

Best regards,
Henning

I have 3 6x9 Fuji rangefinders. So tempting. I think it's a bit more than I can afford.

When I run low on slide mounts, I still buy Wess mounts direct from the manufacturer. Contact information on their web site here: http://www.wessmounts.net/

It's a very small outfit now, but they've always been able to fulfill my orders for a few hundred mounts at a time (glassless, unregistered) for my 6x7 and 6x4.5 transparencies. Usually its old stock, but the last time I ordered (late 2019) they had run out of the 6x7 mounts so they whipped up a new batch for me - it took them a few months but they came through.

FYI, I'm in the USA as are they. I don't know about ordering from them internationally.

You have to consider it as a "once in a lifetime purchase". It is like building a solid house. This Jensen projector is built so robustly and well that it will definitely outlive you. Even your children will have the possibility to continue to use it.

I have Mamiya 6 MF cameras, I use the 35mm "panoramic" adapter. This produces 24x54 mm images. Do you know of anyone who makes a slide mount for this format. I have a Kindermann projector for 7x7cm slides that I use for 2 1/4 " square Images from my Hasselblad. Bronica made backs that produced similar images.

You could contact Mr. Jensen and ask if it would be possible for him to offer panorama formats as well. You certainly then have at least to make an initial order, and it would be certainly a good idea to ask here and in other forums / social media photo groups which other photographers would order that, too. Without a certain demand it would not be possible for him to design and produce a new niche product.
He is at least generally open minded to new product options.

Henning

Henning, that post is just as applicable to houses in Germany and the U.S. as it is to medium format projectors. People in your country build concrete block fortresses and hand them down from generation to generation. Here, we put up "little boxes made of ticky tack" that have an average service life of 61 years with a standard deviation of 25 years.

The house I grew up in is 121 years old. It's changed hands 3 times since we sold it in 2005. The latest buyer finished the 3rd floor attic (big mistake because that's where the summer heat is) . It would cost $300,000 just for the millwork and flooring today. The original stable /carriage house is still in use. It will either become gentrified, or be razed to build medical offices, I'm betting on the prior.

Kunze isn't having any slide mounts on their web site. Only archival material to store mounted slides. Jensen shows only special formats, 6x8 and 6x9.

Diaspeed, if they are actually offering MF frames, are in Covid hybernation. Let's hope they'll return.

Ok, I didn't find this on my own. It's on the accessories page, not overly prominent. A short search didn't turn up any online shop which has these. GFH Foto is on their list of dealer and isn't offering Kunze mounts. Only their archival system.

Foto Brenner is distributor for Kunze - they will send you the slide mounts - I ordered there several times in the past https://www.fotobrenner.de/druck-bild/diarahmen-magazine/
