Geez, I've gotten myself in some trouble with my accountant before but this take the cake. A week ago, I bought a very nice used Burke and James Commercial View with both 5x7 and 4x5 backs. It was an "unplanned" purchase. Some might call it impulsive...or, even totally irresponsible. I think I would have been ok if I had used my credit card instead of the checking account (both linked to my PayPal account). Last night, my wife was "doing the books" and found that we've been overdrawn for a week!!! and guess who made the offending purchase?

Gulp. help?

Be grateful you're in California, not Norway. My shed is COLD!

Worth every penny by the looks of it. Obviously difficult to pass up. Now if you just stop eating for a month your bank balance will recover.

Look on the bright side, Brad. Sleeping in the shed is far better than "wit da fishes".

Very clean-looking camera. Congrats, notwithstanding the repercussions.

Brad, the solution is to bring her to Tonopah next weekend. After she see's how much crap I have she'll submit you for sainthood. Looks like a sweet little outfit. Appears you need Copal 0 and Copal 1 lenses, and a Petzval for the big hole. I can fix you right up.

The recent cameraholic thread encouraged me to count my cameras. As posted in that thread, I turned up 42 cameras (and countless lens, film holders, etc) off the top of my head. If I started sorting through stuff that number would undoubtedly grow. Feel better now?

Brad, Cesear's at Tahoe have great get away packages that include messages. Surprise her with a nice little unexpected trip that you just suddenly take her on. You can pack her bag for her, have it ready in the car when she gets home from work. The kids, you can arrage for their care without her knowing about it. The surprise would come when you take her to that dairy for a milkshake, you drive to Tahoe instead. The camera will be a distant memory.

Next month, let her go to the shoe store and overdraw. Then, all will be right.
In any event, looks like the camera's worth whatever you paid.

B'n there ...

With me it was a Bronica, my first SLR. I had to go on to Midol for the next year. Bill Crosby was right!

Who's Bill Crosby?

Damn, damn, damn! I really wanted that camera, but being my own accountant, I knew I couldn't afford it!

I see now that what I have to do is pretend I don't know how little money I have, and just buy the damn thing! Damn!

Beautiful camera! You could sleep in the shed, especially in California, for that beauty. And next time remember to use the credit card....

Brad,

Maybe you can get out of the doghouse by telling her that no matter what the service fees from the checking account, it would still be less than the interest on the credit purchase. You were actually thinking ahead and PRESERVING the family finances. yeah. that's it.

Sweet looking rig Brad. I've also been bad this week buying 2 old 8x10s... a 2D in great shape and a Calumet that will arrive tomorrow with a 4x5 back and a couple polaroid holders. I've been bitten by the LF bug again and it feels good.

Bill

Thanks everybody for all the support! I knew I could find a sympathetic ear (or fifty) here. I did pay too much however...bought it on eBay so, by definition, I paid more than anybody else was willing to pay. Oh well, it cost about a third as much as the Canham that I'd really like to get...someday.

The shed (no, not light tight - yet  ) actually wouldn't behalf bad if it weren't so darned cold and wet here. I know, I know...there's no snow and the ground is mushy not frozen. I guess I'll not get much sympathy on that account.

Aggie, I love that idea. A weekend without the kids would really...eh, well, ah...satisfy...if you know what I mean.

Jim Galli, We're there...may have to wait for some of that white stuff to melt though. See you in spring?

Brad.

Brad,

what's the diameter of the hole in that big lens board? There may be something on my shelf for it. I am planning a spring cleaning, but you could always take some pictures to help with the advertising!

Your gonna have to do better than that. Repeat after me " I don't care, I'm getting it anyway." Chateau Bow Wow, always keeps a room open for me. I was just thinkin, ( that's dangerous ) if you own cats will she ban you to a cathouse?

Credit the groceries.

Bob, sorry it happened. Paypal likes to default purchases to the bank account. If you catch it in time, just buy your groceries on credit. (ive been a victim of this crime too)

That`s why Arthur Jackson had 2 of them - 1 for his LF gear and 1 for himself.

Brad you did it again!!! Did you sell the BMW? Did you buy her diamonds and pearls first? :D You better get that shed seriously decked out! :D

I just got an 8x10 2d. My dog house is pretty small, can I come over and stay in your shed?

Pretty sweet looking camera.
No advice from me though.... I'm putting a couch in my doghouse later today.
