Any of the old AGFA Chemicals tend to have "new" names now. Most of the AGFA consumer photo trademarks are in a bit of Limbo after the "AGFAphoto" fiasco.

The old AGFA chemical plant has changed hands twice and is now part of a global outsourcing firm. They know how to make the stuff but don't have the rights to any of the names.

ADOX has their ADOSTAB for example which is suposed to be an improved version.

I'm glad to hear it is still available. It is interesting that they mention a slight increase in density at the link above; I don't recall seeing that before.

I use Sistan for fiber paper since I'm quite often happy with my prints without toning. Wasn't there also a modern study that didn't find an increase in permanence with Selenium toner? I'm not saying it is correct, but see mention of that frequently.

Ctein looked at RC prints with Selenium toning, Sistan, or both and found that either or both provided significant protection over untreated prints. I use the Sistan even when I Selenium tone since I don't tone very heavily.

I still have some of both the original formula (1:39 dilution) and the "New" Sistan (1:19). I'm glad the difference in concentration was mentioned since I may well have missed that when I switched to the "New". I notice that the Adostab linked above calls for a 2 minute soak rather than the 1 minute of the original version or the "New". Capacity is still shown as the same.

I wonder about the keeping properties of both the concentrate and the working solution.

... Sistan was developed to help to stabilize RC prints. With FB prints, freed silver ions are not trapped by the plastic layer and are able to escape before they can do any harm (no Sistan needed). ...

After saying that, I must admit of using Sistan for FB myself. I don't mind the overkill and enjoy having Sistan in the emulsion when spotting the print. This has to do with the second Sistan ingredient (Polyoxyethylated Octyl Phenol), which I believe is also called Triton 2000.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

This surfactant helps with the spotting dye soaking into the emulsion and not building puddles on top of it.

Ralph;

There is no such thing as Triton X 2000 AFAIK. The closest this comes is Triton X 100 which is in Photo Flo 200 (or was).
