If you want landscape, it depends on the type. East River (Missouri River) is rolling hills, with occasional anomalies. West River has the Black Hills (Mt Rushmore/Crazy Horse, Hot Springs, Lead, Deadwood, Custer St. Park, Spearfish Canyon, etc), Wounded Knee massacre site, and Badlands and is more dramatic.
Just west of SF is the town of Garretson. They have Palisades St. Park and Devil's Gulch. Interesting rocks/river in these areas. Farms and small towns all over the area.
Sioux Quartzite was quarried around here, so many of the older (turn of the century) buildings are made of this pinkish rock. If you like victorian houses, on Cathedral hill is the historic district.
There isn't much industry in SF except the meat packing plant/stockyards. Photographically it isn't most people's cup of tea. There were milling/seed plants, but most of them are gone. You may have heard about the attempted implosion of the Zip feed plant (aka "The Leaning Tower of Zip") But there are a lot of older buildings in the downtown area of SF.
There is the falls (and the river itself). In the grand scheme of waterfalls, they aren't huge, but in eastern South Dakota they stand out. Going north, east and south from SF is pretty much similar looking features. East river is about subtle changes.
