I am a retired engineer and amateur jeweller, with an interest in photography.
A friend (and professional photographer) has presented me with a few challenges recently.
The first was to modify an Olympus OM1 to take a hand grip. I have developed a 3D printed jig that allows the body to be drilled and tapped without breaking through to the inside. I have also produces a 3D printed grip, similar to the original, that fits the later Olympus cameras in this range and of course, the modified OM1. I have now modified several OM1s with this.
The second challenge was to rebuild the aperture mechanism of a Sinar P shutter. The original plastic had degraded and fallen apart
I have 3D modelled and successfully printed a set of replacement parts that enable the mechanism to be repaired.
With regard to the Sinar P, is this a common problem? Are there other camera parts that could be 3D printed to bring cameras back from the dead?
It's a lot of work to model the parts but if there is demand I could possibly do this in some cases.
For me, this is a hobby, not a business. I enjoy the challenge of designing and making such things. I would be very pleased if my efforts benefit a wider community.
