Me neither, just pointing out the reasons to some of the posters here why it isn't the sort of thing that a retail store would want to do.

A lot of the companies I deal with in an industrial context actually subcontract the sampling process to people like Samplerite who for a fee hold all the chemicals in a warehouse, and ship it with appropriate packing and labelling. Makes sense for a business who would rather deal with getting chemical business instead of keeping the local fire brigade or Health and Safety off their backs

Another vote for Silverprint

I have never had any problems with any of my orders, the staff were both freindly and knowledgeable about stock levels when I phoned up.

I have never been to the shop - a deliberate choice - as it would be like entering an Aladins Cave and I doubt my credit card would survive the encounter

Keeping the bill down to not to far north of £100 is my problem

I have to agree with Martin about Silverprint as I have been using them for years (since they started) and have found their staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful. When a mistake has been made, which somtimes has been my fault, they have literally fallen over backwards to put things right. TBH I never think about going to anyone else as they have been that good

On the few occasions I am in that part of the world I get my supplies from Silverprint. I find their service to be fine, the staff genuine, and their knowledge good. When they don't know something, they actually ask someone who does. The service isn't that fake smile, up in your face, sort of thing I experience in some parts of the world, thankfully.

Give me a genuine person with personality rather than a mission statement programmed robot who will never admit they are wrong or don't know.

I can't be without asking what the value to a public forum is to write disrespectful and unfair attack to a specific member of staff of a well respected shop which is essential to the analogue users.
Should APUG be the bureau of complain for people who can't be bothered to take up their issues with the shop themselves?
Should we let a moron, who is not even committed towards the community since he is not even a subscriber, make such light allegations as "i would suggest getting some friendly super experienced old geezer up front of store and put the young ones in the stock room." This is of no value on a public forum and a disgrace to the overall community.
How about if the unfunded and unfair allegations were being made about the Photographer's formulary?
Where do we stand? how does it reflect if we are not able to recognize and defend hard and strong those places that are essential to support the trade and the art of analogue photography today?
Silverprint is our photographer's formulary. I am gutted, and incidentally so upset, that the highly respected Martin Reed would have to show up and answer in the forum on so low comments. I am ashamed.
I don't mean to overblow it, but at the end of the day, if we don't stand up for what we think is right, what do we stand up for?

I too have nothing but good things to say about Silverprint. Was wonderful to visit the shop and look at what they had on the shelf and then spend $$.

Unfortunately the GBP100 shipping limit (AUD$200) is a huge blow to the budget, so I'll just have to wait until I can get there again and visit in person.

Congrats to Martin and his staff for continuing to support we lovers of analog photography!!

Three cheers for Delphine and many more for Silverprint. I would think the level of support shown here shows how respected and important Martin and Silverprint are for photography in the UK. (UK? It seems their reach is a lot more wider.) I've been using them since the early days in Wapping and speak as a very happy customer. What has constantly been apparent is the importance of stocking as diverse a range of products as posssible which started with Oriental Seagull and continues today with goodies such as Adox, Foma and Moersch. Of course if a customer has a complaint they should take it up, but surely the shop is the best base to start and not whinging on an internet forum. It's always about a bottle of Rodinal isn't it? If anyone should know about the current availabilty of the German Soup, I think it will be Martin and his team. Anyway I look forward to seeing an advert for a 'friendly super experienced old geezer up front.' Maybe I shall apply? Any other suggestions. Ansel Adams in a Santa suit?

Seems almost superfluous given that this is page 9 of responses, but I'd like to add yet another voice in praise of Silverprint. I have used them since they first began, and have found them not only helpful but inspirational. Martin himself deserves some kind of award.

Could some of the old postings from 2005 be deleted....I was thinking of ordering from Silverprint, and was getting quite deterred before I realised that these bad experiences were four years ago.
I'll give them a try now.

Some threads were merged yesterday, wrongly in my view as the old postings are no longer relevant. I'll add my support for Martin and his team who do a great job, in sometimes difficult circumstances given the unpredictability of supplies in the present climate. I speak as a supplier to Silverprint as well as a customer.

I have to agree it's unfortunate that threads have been resurrected from 4 years ago.

I've been ordering online from Silverprint ever since that started, even though I live in London, like some other people I never have a problem making it to the 'post-free' £100 mark! Even if you don't reach it, the cost of delivery is little more than an off-peak tube fare.

I've always found their service efficient and their staff knowledgeable and courteous (whatever their gender!). Email enquiries have always been answered promptly. Keep up the good work Silverprint - we need you.

I'd do that as well, but I use a joint account, and I would have to justify the phrase "Well dear, I Did get free postage......"

well soren,good for you spend big cos london business rates are massive and i believe with the pound being a shrunken currency maybe it is the perfect time to help are mr brown and his balance of payments problems.
i do not think i was suggesting silverprint should go the way of kodachrome,just pointing out an attitude problem.
also i believe process supplies get rodinal from silverprint,so in a way they will still get my money.
i am glad i have done my little bit for the love in but i am sure martin would prefer all of your photographic business rather than just the kind words.
talk is cheap rates i believe are expensive....

Bravo Delphine,

I too use Silverprint on a regular basis without any problems; and I intend to do so in the future. Even if there is an hiccup in communications simple good manners and patience will sort things out better than snide remarks.

Alan - I think the point that most of the people responding to this thread are trying to make is that they are happy actual customers, ie, spending money at Silverprint, not just talking about it. And as eloquently pointed out by Delphine, we need companies like Silverprint to stay in business.

With that, may I suggest we put this discussion to bed? We've all made our points now, let's pull the plug before things turn even more personal. This is, after all, a thread discussing a customer service issue - no more than that.

It saddens me when people hide behind the relative anonymity of the internet to make unfair attacks like these. Probably every specialist photographic supplier has had at least one attack thread on APUG started by a bitter so-and-so. It's really not helpful to undermine the very manufacturers and suppliers who we rely on for the future of photography. Get a life people and think about what you're saying.

As for Silverprint... I use both their online store and their real world store. They are always my first stop for photographic supplies. Why? Because they generally have the strange stuff I want in stock; and when they don't have it then they can usually get it pretty fast. And because they are knowledgeable and well informed about what's going on in the world of photography. And because they care about photography. And because they are nice people.
