I bought a V850 Pro, installed the Epson Scan software I'm familiar with and tested things out - all good.
I installed the Silverfast software, and when launching, I got a message that some "drivers" might not be updated. I had not yet registered the software.
The link provided in the message took me to SF web site, I registered, used the software key that came with the disk, received a confirming email with another code, entered it and installed the updated version.
To play it safe, I plugged the USB cable directly into the computer.
When trying to launch the software, I get a message, "The application "Silverfast 8.app" can't be opened."
I left a message with the phone number for support, but haven't received a call back.
Anyone know what this is about?

I don't know how to fix your problem but I do use SilverFast Ai8. The last time I called their US support it was on the West coast of Florida and it took a few attempts to speak with someone. The parent company is in Germany and if they have chat support you might try that. Make sure the scanner is on before launching the app and that if this comes up be sure you have the correct source as seen here. This may not do the trick but try.

Also this is available, a Laser Soft Imaging discussion forum may already have an answer for you. You need to register so you can log in, with a question or just do a search for an answer already given.

According to the instructions that came with my version when starting SF for the first time a dialog window should open to enter your serial number and name and then click unlock.

I think I had a similar experience-- although in retrospect, it might have been with Epson scan.

The solution was to unplug the USB cable, count to 10, plug the cable back in, and relaunch the application.

Da... de old 'art forgot to put in the link ..

Is it just me, or is the Silverfast forum broken? I forgot my password, but there is no way to get a password reset without first logging into the forum. I've even emailed the support people, and I get some sort of answer like, "We have to fix problems with the forums." It's been over a year now that I can't log in.

Glad George that ya got it reinstalled.. now for the off topic..

Just logged in to the forum, so that's working, but haven't been on it in a couple of years. Do notice that there seems to be no current messages, the newest ones seem to be from 2018. So maybe they chilled it. Who knows.. but there still is quite a lot of info available viva search.

Silverfast doesn't provide drivers. Install Epson drivers first (usually part of Epson Scan which you can download from Epson's web site).

When I 'invested' in my Epson 850 Pro a couple of years ago.. it came with a CD with "Viewscan" software that has been 'updated' to meet the requirements of the latest Mac OS update. I had to have my Mac 'running and 'hooked up' and to the scanner while it was being 'downloaded' and it 'installed' easily and readily.. and have had NO problems.and... was all done.. at no $$ 'cost' out of 'my pocket'

Sure, but that means I can't post a question.

In the process of solving my problem, I created a new account with the Silverfast forums and posted my issue. After a day or two during which my post was evaluated for appropriateness, I got an answer, so the forum was working for a new member last week. Maybe you should just create a new account. I don't like to do that, but they're not making it easy for you.

George,

No, they are certainly not making it easy. I tried to create a new account, but the response was that my email address was already in use. I don't know what to do except to create a new account using an email address that I normally use for business.

If you are able to communicate with them, and they know your email address, don't they have a "forgot my password" or some such function that you can use to trigger them into sending you a new temporary password, then you use it and change it to a new one. At least you won't need to make a new email address.

George,

Trust me that I have communicated with them, multiple times. Each time I get some sort of answer like, "the forums aren't working now because ..." Frankly I don't understand their way of thinking. They want you to communicate directly with them on issues or questions.

I have also tried the "Forgot my password" link many times. It doesn't work now.
