The description makes it sound like it approximates Rodinal. Is this rebranded Ilfosol or a completely different product?

I have yet to develop any film myself since moving to Japan, but I'm not thrilled with lab-developed b/w. Looking around, it seems my old trusty Rodinal is hard to come by, so I'm seeking alternatives that are available here.

The times for HP5 are the same as those Harman give for Agfa Rodinal. I'd give it a go. With this name, are they trying to evoke the Selo films? I like that.

I might as well try it out. Just have to find a stainless tank, which is shockingly difficult, at least online. I'll have to hunt a bit.

It seems to be a Harman site with rebranded products for Japan. Look at top right a link to "English Site by Harman Technology"...

If you look at the pdf for Selonal, it's made by Chugai Photochemical, who I think are part of the Ilford Imaging group (i.e. not Harman).

It seems the composition is like that of Rodinal. The Japanese are an interesting people - they even listed water in the composition...

It's been around for sometime, a Japanese chemical Chuggi Photo Chemical company bought the rights to the Ilford name off the receivers of Ilford Imaging in Switzerland.

Ilford did make their own version of Rodinal, Certinal, which they introduced around 1907 and discontinued late 1950s. Although Mees worked on a similar developer while at Wratten & Wainwright Kodak didn't make an equivalent Kodinol until just after WWII, made by Kodak Ltd here in the UK and never sold in the US.
