I am posting this becasue I think people may be interested. View Camera is a sponsor but that means we are helping promote the event. We have no financial connection with this event.

Silver International Conference and Competition March 3-5, 2006

****************************************************************

Ilford Photo and Calumet Photographic are jointly sponsoring Silver,
an international forum for devotees of traditional black-and-white
photography, including a conference, a photo competition and a
commemorative book, along with informal discussion gatherings and
related events.

The Silver conference will provide an opportunity for dedicated
black-and-white photographers and printmakers to listen, learn and
be part of an important photographic community event. It will be
hosted by the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and will
take place March 3-5, 2006. Additional supporters include the
Society for Photographic Education, Santa Fe Workshops, Texas
Photographic Society and View Camera magazine.

This event will be geared towards photographers and laboratories with
a passion for traditional monochrome photography, and will provide
the opportunity for delegates to hear a lineup of world-class
photographers and lecturers share their expertise and their
experiences to inform, amuse and educate.

The featured conference speakers confirmed to date include Keith
Carter, George DeWolfe, Jeff Dunas, Les McLean, Alan Ross, John
Sexton, and Mary Virginia Swanson all recognized masters in the
field of black-and-white photography with more speakers to be
announced.

The number of attendees will be limited to 350 in order to ensure
that everyone who attends will be able to benefit from all of the
presentations and gatherings.

The Silver Photo Competition will award a first prize of $3,000 plus
a Santa Fe Workshop session. Second and third place prizes will be
$2000 and $1000 respectively, and 15 honorable mentions will also be
awarded.

well reading the calumet thing says it costs $300 to attend so that makes up my mind. It is limited to 350 people so the companies will get to gross about $105,000. they will have some expense but I can bearly afford film and paper now.

no way,

And you know it's not really so much the $300 that keeps me away, but fly/drive is another $300 then everything else. Think they would rather have me buying film/paper etc than going to the conference.

Would actually love to go, but like Lee said....no way. Time and monies already set aside for other upcoming workshops/etc. The wife is a good sport, but at this point no reason to push it. Would rather go to APUG conference than this one....

Well, I'll just have to start saving my money and maybe do a door to door magazine subscription thing. "I'm selling magazines to help me get off your doormat and out to Pasedena. Would you like you buy a subscription to Outdoor photograher?"
No? Then I guess I'll have to see if my lotto numbers come up with a winner!

Are any APUG members submitting work for the Silver competition? I just sent my 3 prints by UPS and I hope they get down there by the 15th.

How many Apug members will be attending? Let's get a head count. Just curious.

Discount?

Guys is $250.00 If you are an APUG or clickersandflickers member !!!!
The $50 discount for registration according to the Calumet web site is ONLY for (SPE and TPS members). Does anyone know what happened to our discount? I was the one that alerted Richard Newman to APUG and that he and Ilford should consider a discount for APUG. So, if no one in APUG knows about the arrangement, let me know so I can straighten it out.

let Richard know you are an apugger and you are supposed to get the discount as well. It was in another thread where that was mentioned.
