Well, after Art's blessings and support from a couple of mods, I will be taking up the reins of the Blind Print Exchange. So, without any further ado . . .

IT'S TIME FOR BLIND PRINT EXCHANGE -ROUND 9.

We will keep things pretty much as they were with Art last year. Here is a link to a good explanation about the (there was a url link here which no longer exists).

Here's the basic rundown. Septenber 2009 is the signup period. October and November 2009 are for printing and mailing your print to your recipient. December is the rest month and we will start round 10 in Jan 10.

Anyone who would like to participate in the BPE must PM me with your name and mailing address during the month of September. Deadline for signup is 30 September 2009 at 4:00 am GMT (midnight US east coast). You can comment here. In fact, conversation here is encouraged.

October and November are set aside for printing and mailing prints. Of course, you eager beavers can print in September and you late bloomers can ship in December. These are basic guidelines and the unforeseen can always occur. We understand this.

On 1 October I will assign everyone a participant to which they will send their print. Everyone sends one print and receives one in return. And you won't know where your print is coming from either. Hence, BLIND. Your print should be the VERY BEST print that you personally can make. I personally want to discourage prints that are not the personal work of the participant. I would like all work to be exchanged to be personal work, not sent out. Size, content, B&W - Colour, matted or no, all of this is up to you.

If for some reason you cannot not meet your commitment PM me ASAP. If you receive a print and cannot fulfill your commitment simply resend it to your own recipient and PM me to the fact.

So, commence to PMing and signing up. I hope to have a huge turnout.

Oh. And if you have participated before, please include in your PM's both those to whom you have sent a print and also those from whom you have received a print. I would like to keep the lists as fresh as possible.

That's what it's all about, after all.

We have four thus far (self included).

Lab prints from Kodachrome scans

Would lab prints from Kodachrome scans qualify for this exchange or prints should be darkroom only?

Bogdan, I am not trying to step in Christopher's shoes, and he will be able to clarify better than I can, however, the very words of Christopher are as follows, and I believe that they answer your question:

"Your print should be the VERY BEST print that you personally can make. I personally want to discourage prints that are not the personal work of the participant"

...and this is aside the fact, that I'd expect an optically printed output.

Yes that's what I read from his guidelines too, I just thought that prints from Kodachrome might be an exception.

It says 'discourage' because I did not want to exclude anyone at all from this exchange. It should at least not be a print made from a didgtal file or scan. Instead it should be created with traditional papers and chemistry. Silver, not silicon. If you have the capacity to print I would hope that you would to make any print by those means. It is up to you and I would like to welcome your participation.

This shows some of the difficulty transparency / slide photographers have. Many don't have the equipment or chemistry to print optically.

My suggestion is to accept prints from a Lambda or Lightjet. This way the image was captured on film and printed using wet chemistry on photographic paper Like Kodak Endura Metalic or Fuji Crystal Archive not an inkjet. Also, I'd get the print made at a professional lab vs Wal-Mart. It's the best compromise if you can't print Ilfochromes.

Regards, Art.

I will accede to Art's knowledge here. If the print meets Art's criteria, Bogdan, then that would be fine. I don't think you can PM under 25 posts so just email me you entry if you wish to participate under those conditions. flash19901@comcast.net

I will add Art's little bit to the first post in this thread. As I said, I did not want to exclude any film photographers and this seems perfectly acceptable.

[edit: I did some research and Lambda/Light Jet printing is perfectly acceptable for those who shot reversal films and do not have the means to personally make prints.]

I'm in!
Tomorrow I'll Pm you my address and who I sent my prints to, and who sent to me his prints.
Just a note: I remember everybody to declare a low value (less than 10usd, possibly "no value") on the envelope (or parcel) to avoid problems with customs.
Of course only for international shippings.
