Is the sigma 28-70 f2.8 any good. I'm consdiering replacing my ancient 35-70 and considered this lens but read poor reviews on other foums.

I've been using one for about a year and have been very happy with the image quality. Not a very good choice for street photography as it is rather heavy and loud but otherwise an excellent value.

Hi
I vote for the 24-70 f 2.8 I like it very much and it is almost ever on my Fuji S2 Digital!
Sometimes also on my Nikon F5!

I don't know what camera you use, but if it is Nikon or Canon, just see prices of theirs 28-70 2,8, and Sigma won't look bad anymore...
