This is part of a private conversation, but it is here as the only place I can get the pix to load

John:

In APUG, you cannot attach files or photos to a PM.

You can only link to photos that are hosted elsewhere on the net.

OK, I have solved the problem of images - However, if anyone knows much about the history of these shutters please share

The Shanel 5A in particular is interesting to me, it came screwed on the front of a 420 Repro Claron, but I understand it is normally used to work with barrel mounted lenses on adaptors on the front - The speeds are good, but 1/20 and 1/25 are almost the same and I can't work out why these speeds are both there

I've a very similar large roller blind shutter which I bought with a few others from Chile, like mine this one has the same hardware although mine's in a nice wooden case and designed for front mounting to a lens. They are copies of Thornton Pickard shutters.

If you tap a thread into that hole in the black shutter release arm you can use a cable release with the shutter.

The Shanel 5A is working perfectly, and fits directly to the 55mm front thread of a Schneider Repro Claron 420mm, which is how it came to me with Sinar Norma 10x8"

I may decide to sell it, as it is now replaced by my modification of my Tacky' 10x8" camera to work with my Sinar Shutter - However, I will have to consider this closely in case I decide to make the Tacky' kit as light as possible

The odd thing about the Shanel is the selection of speeds around 1/20th and 1/25th second - I can't understand that one

I don't want to intrude on a private conversation, but those are very interesting Mr. Grump!
