Shutter Sound

Minolta XE-7. The shutter is a vertical, metal Copal electronic shutter, and the mirror has a shock absorber.

For SLRs, I like the Minolta XD shutter.

The crazy loud Pentax 645 with the motor is somehow comical. And yes, the Mamiya 6 (the one from the 90s, not 50s) is super quiet...

I love the TH-WACKKK of the Hasselblad. It tells everyone that Hasselblad has arrived and is on the scene.

The TH-WACKKK of the Mamiya RB67 PRo is better.

I second the sound from the Hasselblad V system, however it's technically the mirror flop and light guard that makes it so tasty. For actual shutter, I absolutely love and adore the sound of a Leica M cloth shutter. MP or M6, click it all day.

Never thought Barnacks had a particularly pleasant sound. If you could isolate the shutter no from the sound of the annoying rotating shutter dial perhaps.
Leica M is my preference by a good margin.

Yeah the Leica M is definitely more subtle and quiet. Mine certainly is.

Interestingly,
The Praktica with metal shutter sounds like a "crank!". It is unique and I don't hate it.

I would not call this sound pleasant, though. I am always careful to keep my fingers away from this guillotine.

I'd say it's my Barnack at a slow-ish speed. Very mechanical, I can almost see the parts moving just by hearing the sound. The M4 and Rolleiflex are too quiet in this aspect

Earlier on I was thinking my favourite shutter sound is the motorwind shutter firing noise dubbed in on films where the camera is a basic manual hand wind. Makes me smile every time.

Can't beat that video though.

I thought that video was hilarious. I have a hard time with favorite shutter, I've used so many over the last half century its hard to pick one, but my favorite cameras in no partucular order Minolta XE-7, XK, Nikon F3 ,Blad 500 CM and any Leica

Well, we've been shooting for years.

This has been posted before, but it is still as enjoyable as the first time.

I like the sound of any shutter, it's a reminder I'm still alive. At college we used Nikkormat's, but my first professional camera was a Leica M2 and I missed the sound of the Nikkormat. I often use a quiet Rolleiflex for landscape photography but prefer the 'ping' of my Fuji GW670 because I can hear it above the wind. In a studio the sound of the shutter is like a full stop, a moment to relax and regroup for the sitter. A sturdy 'clunk' was ideal for a Press photographer, it signalled to others 'I'm working don't push or I might push back'. A shutter sound is never wasted.

I used an original Nikon F after a some-50-year interval and it sounded exactly as I had remembered - "clunk". All of there various Minoltas and Pentaxes and Canons I've used over the years went "clink" or "clank".
