shutter release extension

I've been lens shopping recently, and I've notice that occasionally I'll see a lens that has a short, flexible shutter release extension--probably 3 or 4 inches long. I've heard people say that they leave an entire shutter release cable screwed into each of their lenses, but it seems like something like this is a slightly less excessive approach. Problem is, I can't find any actually for sale. Maybe I'm not using the right words. Any idea what these are and where I can buy them?

I have Japanese versions of bpth these kinds of adapters, but with JapanPost e-Packet service suspended, it would be expensive to ship them, unless you're buying something else together.

The best extensions I have are made by ETSUMI (Japan), they have a woven outer braid, they are nice and flexible. They allow the extension to rotate whilst affixed to the lens making attaching the main release cable a bit easier.

I also have some other extensions from this UK company with a plastic type outer (almost like heat shrink) but I do not rate them as highly as they are no where near as flexible, they look exactly the Gepe ones Kumar posted.

thanks. I kept searching "shutter release" instead of "cable release". Unfortunately they a pretty pricy for what they are. The funny bit is in the link @seall posted--a full release is UKP 7, the short extension is UKP 25.

sigh.

I guess I'll probably go with the rigid ones like Kumar's other link. Thanks.

Short cloth Gepe releases are great for leaving attached to a lens shutter. It saves a little time plus you are not hunting for a cable release in your bag when you need it.

Extensions sure help for lens shutters in a recessed board. Trying to get your fingers in there to attach a cable every time can get annoying.

The german manufacturer Schreck would make you a custom extension. Off the shelf they offer a 8cm and a 15cm extension, something which should suit your needs.

I'm not sure how if two different people like the same movie is relevant in a review on a piece of camera equipment that falls to bits with little use .
Sounds a bit confused to me .

because I don't know them, and don't trust them. I don't know how they were trying to use it, I don't know if they did something far outside of what I would expect of the device. A professional reviewer with a reputation I know, they go through all the ins and out of testing and if they encounter problems also give details on what they were doing that caused the problems. My main release is a Kalt, and I've never had trouble with it.

Here’s another review. 5-star. I have had one of them on a LF lens in a recessed board so it bends constantly, yet it’s held up for about 5 years.

I could be mistaken but I think I bought it from B&H, too.

I don't trust you either. Nah, its really the anonymous nature of the review spots on resellers pages and things like that. I've read Mr. Shaw's posts here for a couple years, and he seems trustworthy. I'd give him a trust score of .75 on camera related topics (1 is perfect trust, 0 is the current leader of the "other" political party)

Do they really look like the Gepe. Note the exceptionally nipple on the Gepe that allows the extension to bend tightly at the nipple and yet still allow it to trip smoothly.
Virtually all the Asian ones have a longer nipple and will not bend and trip like the Gepe. These are find on large recessed boards but are very problamatical on small recessed boards like a 45 Technika board.
Linhof also sells the same wide angle extension as the Gepe one.

GEPE is a injection moulding manufacturer. They do not produce cable releases.
Some if not all releases marketed by GEPE are obviously made by Schreck.

On the GEPE website the releases do not even show up.

Gepe was the owner of our company, HP Marketing, Corp.
As a subsidiary of Gepe we developed our own product lines in the USA, Gepe Pro. This included cable releases, light boxes, etc. some of these products were also sold by other Gepe subsidiaries around Europe. None were produced by or sold by Gepe themselves.

when Gepe decided to depart the photo industry we were the only distributor left and they decided to close us. We transferred some of our product lines, including Gepe mounts and other Gepe manufactured products to the Mac Group. Our other lines, including Gepe Pro went to OmegaBrandess.

we sold Schreck releases under Gepe Pro as well as from Kaiser and some from Linhof.
